"Papa" Joe Chevalier dies at 62

He was a big name on sports talk radio here in Vegas, but he also was syndicated out of Chicago:

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is Nevada's most trusted source for local news, Las Vegas sports, business news, gaming news, entertainment news and more.

    RIP.....

I remember listening to some of his stuff from Sporting News Radio when we had access to it years ago. He was the common man's sports talk show host.

Same here. I had wondered what happened to him after he left Sporting News Radio. He was always a good listen on there. We lost Sporting News Radio here as well a few years back and I noticed he wasn't on there when I got XM around that time.

He wasn't on around here for very long but I do remember some guy calling him Papa John. He said "I'm Papa Joe! If you want a pizza call the other guy". Then he hung up on the guy. RIP

He was a joy to listen to when living in Chicago. While I enjoyed the local sports radio personalities, he was a breath of fresh air as he discussed everything else going on in the world of sports. He could talk non-stop about something making news in sports and I'd just listen and smile. Bite Me Wednesdays were always worth tuning in.

I thought at the time in the late 1990s he was in his 60s. I had no idea he was that young then and of course when he passed away. He'll be missed.

I remember listening to this guy for the longest time on Sporting News Radio. I always liked his show it didn't get tiresome like a lot of sports radio shows get with me.

I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

I listened to him in the evening on Sporting News Radio as well. My favorite came ok after him, The Stinkin' Genius, Arnie Spanier.

Damn....I used to listen to him all the time as a kid. Him, Spanier, John Renshaw, Kevin Wall....that's terrible.

Spanier is on here in Dallas now on 105.3 The Fan. Station flipped formats about 2 years ago, I was told about it, turned to it and the first voice I heard was Arnies. It brought back memories of sneaking my radio in the bed at night and listening to his show on One on One Sports from 9-1. Stinkin' Genius!

Man....that's exactly what I used to do.

I used to love when Spanier would say "Ohhhhhhhhhh LAKER FANSSSSSSSSSSSSS!"

Just now noticed this thread. I loved Poppa Joe as a kid. I would sit in my room and play video games and listen to him on my radio. His show was on a local affiliate before ESPN came on the channel.
