There's a few things I noticed, but nothing that major.

    - Although hard drive is good, I would really spend the extra money on the Caviar Black edition rather than Caviar Green. Green's are solid hard drive, but the caviar black is more reliable and I've never really seen a real negative thing said about it. It'll cost more but will put your mind at ease IMO.

    - If you're going to go with a raidmax I would definitely spend the extra 10 bucks and get a 700 watt PSU:

Overall solid build though. Did the craigslist one fall through or did I miss what happened with that?

Yeah, it fell through. He was a tad bit too far away to work with me unfortunately. I may go back and see if I can reconnect, I have a day or two this week I can run up regardless. But looking at what I have, doesn't seem like too bad of a build regardless. Thanks for the link to the more powerful PSU. My eyes were way too tired of searching last night.

I'll take a look into the black drives.

I may just cut my PC purchase into two separate transactions. Get the motherboard, CPU, ram, and then in a week grab everything else. I know it'll kill me though when everything starts to get here, and I can't do anything about it, ha.

Sometimes you just have to do that. Graphics card should always be the last thing to buy, because that is the one item that always drop down in price every month, sometimes every other week.

It's up to you, but I haven't done it because it's too hard. I mean if you can't afford to get it all at once then no harm, but it definitely won't be easy. :P

Very true. And not an essential piece, cause if you have a case, HD, motherboard, PSU, RAM you could install OS and get it ready to go.

Yeah, reached out to the CL guy again. He still has it, but that's 3 hrs away from me, so still not sure. 6 Hr round trip would stink. But, then again it is a full system, and has a 4870 1GB DDR5 card, so who knows. I would like to have the motherboard that I have listed up there, just because it's AM3+, but I'm sure the current x6 won't be too outdone by the Bulldozer chips too soon anyway. Not for the price point anyway.

WTF that system is looking good. Get the SATA 6 gb/s instead of 3 gb/s. Faster data transfer speeds.

By the way, go for windows 7 and get the advantages of directx 10 and 11 on your games.

I just bit the bullet and upgraded to a geforce 560ti overclocked version, new PSU, hard drive and windows 7. I will look to upgrade to a quad core CPU later, maybe around christmas or I may go for an entirely new motherboard CPU combo as I am currently using Core 2 du chips.

Amazon has no tax too, you should look at that. Saved me $50.00.

Re: Computer motherboard Manufacturers and quality

AND.... my build fell through, due in part to the fact that I am buying a PC from a local guy:

AMD Phenom II 3.2Ghz quad core (B55 Black Edition)
nVidia GTX 260 Core 896 MB video card
                4GB of Mushkin RAM
                160GB hard drive
                Windows 7 Professional
NZXT gaming case with a 550+ power supply
Included is a PCI Wireless NIC network card, DVD Burner, Keyboard and Mouse.

Ended up getting that for $300. Not a bad PC, with the videocard for the price. Granted, it won't blow Skyrim out of the water in the present state, but I figure with the x4 being overclockable, and then throw in a new 500 series videocard running in SLI, maybe double the ram and then be good.

At least that's my thoughts at the moment. Seems to be a good base for $300 though.

                Edit:
Case - Antec Three Hundred + BP430 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Motherboard - ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD
                Processor - AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor
                RAM - CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
                Hard Drive - HITACHI 0A38016 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

                Graphics card - GeForce GTX 260 896MB 448-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
Power Supply - Antec 650 Watt PSU (EA 650)

That's what I'm ending up with. Overall, not a bad system. I do have my 1100T x6 processor coming from newegg as well, so all said and done, for $479, end up with a complete system with:

                AMD x6 1100T Processor
Case - Antec Three Hundred + BP430 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Motherboard - ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD
                RAM - CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
                Hard Drive - HITACHI 0A38016 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
Optical Drive - SAMSUNG DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S223L LightScribe Support

Power Supply - Antec 650 Watt PSU (EA 650)

Not bad at all if you ask me.

Re: Computer motherboard Manufacturers and quality

Other than the obvious 3.0GB/s speed of the Hard Drive, and older videocard, is there anything that you all see that would need to be updated in the near future? I can upgrade the ram to 16GB with that board, so I'm pretty set for that.

If I grab a 500 series nVidia card, and run them in SLI or crossfire, whatever it's called, that should be suffice to play anything out there at the highest possible settings, right?

This has been much more confusing than it used to be, so thanks to my OS Computer gurus helping through this.

My guess if you SLI 2 560 Ti or something like that you should be solid. What resolution are you going to be running games at? 1920 x 1080? I would think that build will run skyrim, BF3 or anything else out at a very very acceptable frame rate and quality.

That's the card I'm looking at for the cheap future. $125 after MIR, not too shabby to run alongside of the other card. I'll be looking to run at at least 720p for most games, 1080p if at all possible at max.

I may just grab one of those now, and then wait for the prices to come down on some of the new tech for a new card closer to Skyrim.

Do you already have a monitor? If you do, make sure you run games at its native resolution for best appearance. If you have this machine, you are short changing yourself running at 1280X768...My suggestion is make sure you get a monitor that has native resolution of 1920 x 1080 to get the full benefits of sharp looking games. Resolution is big difference maker in computer games.

Yeah, I'll be running them on my Samsung Plasma. The PC is going to be a media hub for us, so everythings going to be running through it. Definitely won't be playing on a small computer monitor. So either 720p or 1080p will be what I run at.

I just want to make sure that the graphics card will be able to power through it, but surely if I have the GTX260 896MB card, and then add a 550TI or the likes, then things will run above 60FPS, right?

My PS3 and 360 are downstairs in the mancave, so this PC will mainly be living room tv only. Although if I enjoy PC gaming, then it'll be going to the mancave and one or both systems will come back into the family room.
