Evil. Or at least extremely self-serving. Walt's family's lives are on the line, and he doesn't even contemplate turning himself in. Using Saul's "witness relocation program"? Sure. A risky, elaborate scheme to kill Gus? Absolutely. Confessing his crimes to Hank & the authorities in order to end the madness and get his family out of this mess? No way. Walt values his pride above everything else.

This and sons of anarchy are the two best shows on television. That is all.

IMO turning himself in would have ended badly for his family. Taking out Gus basically assures Hank and his families safety. If he's behind bars and Gus is still alive, who's to stop Gus from killing them? Turning himself in only saves his own life, making him harder to get to while his family is still vulnerable. At least that's the way I interpret it

Maybe, but this show is eons beyond Sons. I started off watching Sons and it didn't grab me.... even when they first brought Wagenbach over from the Shield. The depth of Breaking Bad is hard to beat. If it end here, I'm fine... if not, I'm even better!

What were the chances that Walt's plan would work (the fact that this is a TV show aside)? 10%, if that? And what would've been the consequences for Walt's family if he'd failed? Gus would absolutely continue to have at least Hank and Skylar killed because he'd have no idea what they knew. Not to mention the fact that Walt's unlikely scheme involved poisoning an innocent child.

If Walt turns himself in, Gus and his entire operation are exposed to the DEA and FBI. The jig's up for Gus. The superlab is taken. It's all over. Walt's family would be under 24-hour protection. Gus would either be fleeing the country or preparing his legal defence. Vengeance against Walt through his family (assuming it was even possible at this point) would be the last thing on his mind; it wouldn't serve any purpose.

Let's face it. This hasn't been about Skylar and the kids since the day Walt turned down Gretchen's offer to fund his cancer treatment. He doesn't want his family to get hurt, of course, but when it comes right down to it, this is about Walt and only Walt. He's no longer the middle-class schlub, powerless against cancer, resentful that his genius has been overlooked. Walt feels empowered. He's now the one who knocks. Anyone who did IRL what Walt's done on the show would be (rightfully) labeled a monster.

Re: Breaking Bad season 4 - premieres 7/17/11

Watched all 4 seasons in the past month. Breaking Bad is now my 2nd favorite scripted show on television.

I'm going to ramble on and talk about all 4 seasons. If you haven't watched the show and for some reason is reading this post, click away right now.

              - I was sad to see Gus die. He was my favorite character on the show. I loved the episode that focused on his back-story. On a badass like Gus can take out a cartel without even having a weapon on him.

              - I missed the title easter eggs in Season 2 (Seven Thirty Seven, Down, Over, ABQ). I thought the body bags was for 2 fairly significant characters. I didn't expect the "crime scene" to be the airplanes coming down.

              - After I watched the first season, I was actually going to make a post asking when does Breaking Bad become good?, lol. I enjoyed the first 3 episodes but I found the rest of the season kinda boring.

              - The worst episode is Fly from Season 3. I think we will look back at this episode as the BB version of the Lost episode about Jack's tattoos. I know the bean counters wanted a Bottle episode but it was still really boring.

              - I didn't know what really happened in the end of Season 3 until I read an interview with the Gilligan. He admitted the editors said some of the viewers might think Jesse didn't shoot Gaul because of the camera movement. Gilligan said he didn't mean to confuse the viewers yet he kept the same shot.

              - Skylar put on a lot of weight in Season 4.

              - The acting is really good but I loved Cranston when he laughed like a crazy guy in the crawl space.

              - I want to know how Walt was able to poison Brock. When I looked around online it seems like a lot of other people want to know this too. Some people have speculated that it was Saul that did it since he went to drop off money to his house every week

              - It looks like the final 16 episodes will be split into 2 seasons. I understand why AMC is doing this but as a viewer, I don't like it. I'm glad I was able to watch all 4 seasons without the long wait between episodes and seasons. The wait for Season 5 is torture

I haven't heard anything official either way. The Sopranos did the split in their last season, but they had a hefty 21 episodes to deal with so they went with 12-9.

I strongly disagree with this. The writing, acting and dialogue in that episode were fantastic and it was by far the most character interaction between Walt and Jesse in any given episode. I have gone on record several times about how the odd couple interaction between Walt and Jesse is one of my favorite aspects of this show and we get more of that here than any other time. Plus, it was just before the boiling point that particular season and served as a sort of recap, sans clips, to everything that had ed up to that point. Not to mention that it was directed by Rian Johnson who I believe is one of the better up and coming directors out there right now. I cannot comment on the particular episode of Lost you are referring to (I have never seen a single episode of that show) but I will always look back at Fly quite fondly.

Nothing has been confirmed but I would be shocked if they aren't split into 2 8 episode seasons. AMC would make more money (DVD/Blu-Ray/ sales) by splitting them up instead of running 16 episodes in a row.

I think The Fly is the most polizering episode of the series. Some people love it, some people hate it. I don't think it moved the story forward.

When I googled the episode recap, I found out the Lost Series Finale was on the same time. I'm sure this played a part in how the episode was written/produced.

I just wonder how the final 16 episodes are going to play out. We know Walt will do anything to protect his family but I would be interested in a storyline where Walt Jr gets hooked on his Dad's meth. I'm not sure how Gilligan would have a better villain than Gus but I hope we still get one.

By far, my least favorite episode of the series.

                            Good find.

Of course Vito Corleone survived the first orange indicator (fruit market), but ultimately died in a little orange grove.

                            What a great line!:

Tessio: Can you get me off the hook, Tom? For old times' sake? Tom Hagen: [shakes his head] Can't do it, Sally.

I just caught on to this show and watched season 1-4 over the last couple of weeks. Simply amazing and I regret taking this long to get hooked. Are there any rumors as to when the final season will start? I looked around and it sounds like production starts soon and for someone who hasn't watched as they've aired I'm not sure when the past seasons have normally debuted.
