So I checked with one of my close friends, Nick, and he said that he doesn't know of our friend's dad being in the movie, but Nick says that he was a fan extra at the Coliseum on opening day, and that a couple of his buddies are players in the movie. I wonder if I know them too, since we all played ball together back in the day. Going to have to go down the IMDb list.

Re: Moneyball - The Movie
Loved the book, so I'm sure I'll check it out when it hits cable / on demand / PPV...
Off the top of my head though, it seems that the "batting average" of sports related movies (as well as music related films) actually turning out realistic / good are kind of low...
Furthermore:
How they're going to explain Bill James stat concepts in way that understandable to the casual observer is beyond me...Comment

^^^I'm sure they will just keep it simple...everyone is looking at HR's and batting average and we are looking for walks and on base percentage or something like that.Comment

Re: Moneyball - The Movie
I don't know how they're going to make this movie exciting but Sorkin is involved so it's probably going to be good. I don't think it's going to do well at the box office though.
I noticed Paul DePodesta is called "Peter Brand" in the trailer. Perhaps DePo wanted somebody thinner and good looking to play him? lolComment

Re: Moneyball - The Movie
The story I heard was that before the script was re-written, DePo was afraid the casting of Jonah Hill was just be for comedic purposes and that his portrayal of DePo would be no where near accurate.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Can't say I blame him.
Turning DePodesta's character from a college athlete to a fat computer nerd living in his mother's basement seems like what you'd do if you were filming a parody of Moneyball, not an adaptation.Last edited by DrJones; 06-17-2011, 01:35 AM.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Looks hot. Visually, my only complaint is how dark the night games look.
My friend's dad is supposed to be in this movie somewhere. I'll ask who he's playing (or if it's just an extra), because when he said he'd be in the movie, I checked the IMDb page and never found his name. Time to investigate.
My thinking is I like the look. Is it true to TV Presentation? No. But, I think we also have to consider that it isn't shot to look like it's on TV or if you're at the game. It's shot to look like you're watching dramatic moments in the film. Even that shot of who I think is Hatteberg taking a walk screams: I'M A FILM!
I like it."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Moneyball - The Movie
After it's ups and downs with cancellations and re-writes it's finally getting pretty close to the big screen. Scheduled to release September 23rd, here's a first look trailer (skip to ~40 seconds in to avoid the yucky Bradgelina talk)

I gotta say, doesn't look half bad. But I'm an A's fan, a sucker for baseball movies, and am an extra in the film!PSN: ckarlic

Re: Moneyball - The Movie
The movie premieres tonight at the Toronto Film Festival and premieres in Oakland on the 19th at the Paramount Theater. Slated for full release on Sept. 23rd.
I'm still really looking forward to this film. The trailers that they've been showing give it a slight comic appearance but I'm wondering if those are the few "funny" spots in the film and the rest is all business.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

I tried to get tickets for the Oakland Paramount Theatre, but to no avail.

As long as Fincher can excite baseball fans with this, it should be golden for me. Re: Moneyball - The Movie
Well, tell me I'm wrong. And technically, it should be easier to recreate in a movie since you already have the stadium and their lights available at your disposal. With The Show, it has to do with the look of the sky lol. In this movie, it looks like they forgot to turn the lights on at night.
It's not a real complaint, more so like... what happened? Basically to put an end to this so the topic doesn't become about this, Fincher went for the look intentionally. I simply don't agree with the director's artistic intent on this matter, that's all.I tried to get tickets for the Oakland Paramount Theatre, but to no avail.

I'm going back to these posts, because to this day I could have sworn that Fincher was directing this movie. Maybe I confused him with Sorkin, because I knew that somebody who was largely associated with The Social Network was working on this film. Not sure how I thought that Fincher was involved, though.
Anyway, it was impossible for me to see it last night, but I'm planning on seeing this a few hours from now. It's gotten nothing but praise from the critics, and I'm expecting the masses to love it as well (at least, for those who see it). The want to see it might fly over some non baseball fans, but hopefully it'll become a collector's item for all of us someday (I'm not saying it's a masterpiece or anything, but I'm sure it delivers well).Last edited by Blzer; 09-24-2011, 02:44 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
