    Time to buy some speakers

Hey OSers, I'm hoping to get some help with purchase of some speakers. What I'm looking for is very good sound quality with ability to connect to both a computer as a source. I think I'd be willing to spend up to $200, but would be much more comfortable with something closer to $100 than $200. I'm not a huge audiophile, so I don't need something super high-end, but I would like something nice enough - and a big thing for me is the ability to plug in to a computer or an iPod with ease.

Thanks for any help guys. If you can help with brands or anything too that would help. I'm new to this

Re: Time to buy some speakers

Does anyone have experiences with either of these models?

    M-Audio Studiophile AV 40

Altec Lansing MX6021 2.1 Expressionist Ultra

    Logitech THX-Certified Speaker System Z623

    Thanks for any help.

If you need computer speakers I'd probably narrow down the search to something from: Creative Labs, Altec Lansing or Logitech.

The Audio Insider is a dealer for Swan Speakers. They are a higher end brand. I had a pair of M200 (they don't make them any more) for about 6 years. I just upgraded to the Swan D1080MkII08 for around $175. They are great. I have them connected to my PC via a USB DAC and they sound great. The speakers also come with an RCA to 3.5mm jack so you can connect them directly to your onboard sound card on your PC or your ipod. Check for some reviews online i believe they beat out the M audio speakers you mentioned.

Just checked out that Swan pair and they look fantastic. I think what I'm going to do is order the Logitech pair because the price difference is so big. Amazon has a great return policy so if I don't love them, no harm no foul, I will send them back and likely pick up the Swans. But at almost twice the cost for the Swans, I gotta start with the Z623's.

Good strategy. No need using a sledge hammer if a fly swatter will do the job.

What are you going to use it primarily for? Music? Gaming? I've researched a whole month for some good pc speakers...i wanted a 5.1 setup and I finally settled on the logitech z506 for 80 bucks..

From my research I read studio speakers are best when listening to music...that first link you showed the m-audio studiophile av40 are best for the price it offers
