    Computer Trouble

Hey guys, been having a lot of trouble with my computer over the last couple months. Overheating, CPU use up to 100% at random times, etc. Lately my computer has been having random shut-downs. Well, it won't shut down, it'll go into a hibernate-type thing and the screen will turn off and get unresponsive. I'll have to power down with a hard button press and then turn it on a little bit later. I thought it might be some overheating thing, maybe.

I looked in the "Event Viewer" (running Windows 7) and I saw Kernel-Power Event ID 41 error as a critical event. No idea what that could mean.

Getting pretty close to just throwing the computer at a wall.

    Anyone know whats up?

It could be overheating. When was the last time you opened it up and cleaned out all of the dust and checked to make sure case fans were working? CPU usage at 100% alot of the time? Do you have a virus?

Check out this site that describes this error:

Could be a sleep mode issue.

Use RealTemp or something else to monitor your idle cpu temps. What cpu do you have?

        It's a dv7-1175nr HP laptop.

I've never opened it up, don't know how to...lol.

It's always felt relatively hot anyway, but I figured it was because its a big laptop overall. I've ran scans on Kaspersky and there are no viruses or anything to really speak of.

Go to Start > Run > type "dxdiag" (no quotes) and you should see it

Its a T5800 Core Duo processor

I DLed "RealTemp" and it says temp, in celsius, is 46 and "Distance to TJ Max" is 54.

Do you have unnecessary programs launch when the computer boots? How is the ventilation? What is the room setting like? The problem could be the computer, but it could also be external issues. Did you make any substantial changes to the computer recently?

Also, stay away from HP laptops in the future. My experience with them has been far from pleasing. Come to think of it, all my HP products are garbage.

I don't think I have much unnecessary stuff on startup. Just my internet security, the quick launch button software, wireless adapter, and a few other systemy things.

I have a cooling pad under this thing AND a mini desk fan aimed right at the hottest side of the computer.

No real substantial change to the computer, no. Not that I can really remember.
