Can't browse the internet on my laptop

Several days ago, both my wife and I were using our computers (my wife on her laptop and I was on my desktop). Then, we had a black out (no electricity) for about an hour, and when power came back she couldn't browse the internet on her laptop anymore. It seems that everything is connected and seems fine (all bars are full and all that) - but when she opens a browser she gets a blank page.

She deactivated her Firewall, uninstalled the antivirus program etc...it didn't work. We even changed the security password and updated it on the laptop and it didn't work either. I reset the router and it didn't work... which led us to think that it's not a router problem. We still can't figure it out.

Does anyone have a suggestion what to do?

    Thanks!

Try connecting the laptop with an ethernet cable.

Does your desktop have a connection?

Power cycle your router and/or modem. see if that helps.

Also, because you had an hour long blackout, your router might have reset itself to the default settings.

Well, my desktop PC works fine. Yesterday I connected the laptop to the router with a cable and it showed that it's connected, yet I still wasn't able to browse the internet.

And I have already reset my router myself and changed password and all that, but it didn't help.

            You might have Spyware.

Are you using IE? Go to Tools >Internet Options > Connections tab

Click on LAN Settings and make sure you're not using a proxy server. If you are, disable it.

I'd scan the system for viruses.

Somewhat similar thing happened to me. My internet connection went down, and I wasn't able to get it back up. Overtime it eventually got back up on itself, but there was one site I couldn't visit: operationsports.com. This is annoying because it's my most frequently used site, but I'm able to go on my phone when I'm not in the Wifi or when I'm running a proxy that I downloaded (for free) that changes my IP.

Thanks for the tips guys. The wi-fi is on and not using IE (yuch!), but I will check the browser's settings and see if changing anything there can help.

I still need to check for spyware.
