    Cleaning LED/LCD screens.

What does everyone suggest for cleaning an LED or LCD screen ?

My TV has an LED screen and I usually take a soft wash cloth and rinse it out in hot water and get the majority of the water out and barely graze the screen with it and get rid of smudges and dirt.

I don't think that's the appropriate way, so I thought I'd ask and see what everyone thought was the best way to do it.

The problem with tap water is that it has minerals and such in it that can get left behind on the screen. Get yourself a bottle of distilled water, and a couple of microfiber cloths as well. "Wash cloth" sounds like a regular cotton cloth, they're too coarse and can put tiny scratches in the screen.

You can buy small packs of wipes at Best Buy. I think they are in cell phone section usually, but approved for use on tv (lcd/led) screens too. Fairly handy, easy.

          Thanks for the tips, guys.

I could have googled it, but sometimes I would rather ask here.

Totally agree. Also never spray cleaner directly on the screen. Spray it directly on the microfiber cloth then wipe your screen

As long as that cleaner is specifically designed for screens. Don't EVER use anything like windex or any other alcohol based cleaner.

Usually water and microfiber is enough to get any fingerprints or smudges removed. I violently sneezed on one of my TVs one time and didn't realize till the next day that a big boogie had hit the screen. Water and microfiber cleaned the dried crusty off perfectly.

Also, I'd suggest using that microfiber cloth for only cleaning TVs. Don't use it one other things where it could pick up anything abrasive.

                Hi Guys,

I was just about to ask this. My buddy who works at a electronic store says thats all they, and he does to clean TV's at work and home is to use the distilled water and microfiber cloths. He said that he ads a cap of isopropyl alcohol to the distilled water in a spray bottle.

                Is the alcohol necessary?

Wish my dad listened to me on this. He sprays windex directly on the screen and uses a paper towel... I told him let me handle the cleaning, but I find him trying this at least once a month.

No, not necessary, but it can really help with any greasy residue (fingerprints!).

It can also aid in evaporation, though that shouldn't be a concern unless you're spraying way too much directly on the screen and it starts to run into the cracks between the screen and the bezel.

I thought tap water and anything with alcohol was a no no when cleaning screens.

Yeah tap water has minerals and other impurities. Distilled water has all this removed. as one member alluded to a cap full of isopropoyl alcohol will make the water dry a little faster and leave less streaks.

No alcohol whatsoever. TV's have a protective layer that gets ruined when anything such as alcohol come in contact with it. There's a reason TV screen cleaners contain no alcohol in them.
