EXCLUSIVE: This is a quite a bombshell -- I have learned that Frank Darabont, the creator, executive producer and director of AMC's smash hit The Walking Dead, is stepping down as showrunner of the series, which is now in production on its upcoming second season.

now it doesn't really worry me overall, but hopefully the incoming showrunner keeps the similar vision going forward.
Here's EW's article on it, and they're saying it is official.

They are already mid-way into production of the full 13-episode run. They say him stepping down won't affect the series.

No idea how the series changes in Season 3. But that's something to worry about later. Can't wait for Season 2.

Yeah, what i read was that he was having trouble getting used to the grind of a tv series vs a movie (definitely a different pace/schedule for sure).

I doubt it'll affect anything going forward.

Honestly, I could see the show getting even better WITHOUT him there, as it seems his heart was never quite into it. The guy spent, what, four years trying to get this to TV, and then six episodes in he's already feeling anxious and ready to move on? To me that says he wasn't all in, and it would be better to get someone behind the scenes who's passionate around this being their one and only focus.

Hopefully the new showrunner forces Sarah Wayne Callies to eat something so she stops looking like one of the zombies. She'd be hot if she weren't so sickly looking.

I'm pumped for the 2nd season. I loved the first season and can't wait for a full 13 episode season.

                That trailer was awesome, too

I think she looks fine for her role.

                    AMC's Statement:

The Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara, writer and executive producer, is expanding his responsibilities to assume the role of showrunner. AMC is grateful to executive producer, writer and pilot director Frank Darabont whose contributions to the success of The Walking Dead are innumerable. We continue to discuss his ongoing role with the series.

Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead graphic novels, executive producer and writer on the series, will remain in this role and will continue to steward the brand. Gale Anne Hurd will remain in her role as Executive Producer. The production continues on schedule for an October 16th premiere.

Yeah, the key is Kirkman remaining involved...as long as he's there then the story should be fine, and other writers were writing it all anyways (not Darabont)...

Shouldn't cause any issues, and if he wasn't up for the grind then it could make things better like someone said.

Great news! What's not so great is the break in-between the first six episodes and the second set of six.

February 12, 2012 is the start of the second half.

I get it. Lots of shows take breaks during the holidays. And it would be weird to watch zombies during the festive holidays.

I kind of treat AMC the way I treat HBO, Showtime, etc. Short seasons, no breaks, great TV.

And come on. Who wouldn't want zombies during the holidays? Beats the hell out of old holiday-themed shows!
