3 Doors Down Time of Life 7/19/11
Been listening to the new album since yesterday, it's really good. Any other fans of 3DD?Tags: None -
Re: 3 Doors Down Time of Life 7/19/11
I've been anticipating this for 16 months now, and it's finally coming! I was able to preview all of the songs, and while it has the modernity of their recent albums, it has the vocal capacity of their first albums. The main thing that I've noticed is Brad Arnold rarely gets center stage in choruses anymore, something that would really hurt songs like Here Without You if they were implemented like that.
Seeing that I've only got to preview the songs (and the only song I've heard in full is "When You're Young"), so far the winners on this album seem to be "When You're Young" and "Heaven." I'm definitely hoping this will be my album of the year, though. Guess I have to wait till the 19th.

3DD's first songs were good, but I didn't like the mixes and use of instrumentals at all. Songs like "Loser" are terrific when treated correctly (for instance, it's great on acoustic and has sounded terrific live), but the album version is very sub-par to me.
I also might be one of the bigger fans who doesn't really hold "Kryptonite" or "When I'm Gone" in very high regard. I'll take "Let Me Go" and "Be Somebody" over them any day of the week, except live I suppose.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I was about to say, I'll take being called a "15 year old girl" if it means I'm allowed to still listen to their newest albums.

I'll be sure to get the deluxe version of this album at Best Buy, which features acoustic tracks for their two singles, a bonus song, and the original demo track for Train from their previous, self-titled album.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: 3 Doors Down Time of Life 7/19/11
Well, I got the album yesterday morning and have already given it more than several playthroughs. The first time through, I was actually very underwhelmed. A couple of more times through, I found the true pieces of the puzzle, and the separation of the good versus bad songs. Here's the track list:
01. Time Of My Life
02. When You're Young
03. Round And Round
04. Heaven
05. Race For The Sun
06. Back To Me
07. Every Time You Go
08. What's Left
09. On The Run
10. She Is Love
11. My Way
12. Believer
13. When You're Young (Acoustic)
14. Every Time You Go (Acoustic)
15. Silence Remains
16. Train (Demo)
17. What's Left (Acoustic)
I consider 02, 04, 06, 07, 08, and 10 to be the "good" songs on the album, with 01, 03, and 09 to be the songs that I tolerate more than enough but won't crack any top hits to write home about, and I find 05, 11, and 12 to be mediocre filler. Even the bonus song (15) is better than those last three songs I mentioned. The acoustic tracks are beyond stellar (What's Left on acoustic brings a chill down my spine), and the demo version of Train can be skipped or deleted from your playlist if you already have the original version from the previous album.
At first glance, this album is inferior to the previous album. After listening to it a few more times, it still doesn't have any songs that leave with the punch like "It's the Only One You've Got" has, but it has some good mainstream contenders (better than most of the crap out there, and includes some lyrical soul). Each song is diverse enough to pick apart from one another, but it shows more so in the verses and much less in the choruses, which is slightly disappointing. The songs shine the most when Brad Arnold takes center stage, instead of having background vocals. If they do have them, save them for the choruses only.
I'm still waiting for another 3DD song to completely enthrall me like Here Without You did, and I'm still waiting for an album to not fail on a single song like Seventeen Days did. Until then, I'll settle with this album and keep it playing in my car for a while, at least till I can sing along with some of the songs. At the very least, the lasting appeal of this album comes with the bonus tracks in the deluxe edition, so I recommend you buy that one if possible.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: 3 Doors Down Time of Life 7/19/11
I like 3 Doors Down, but they have started to wear thin on me. I listened to the new cd on PS3/ Music Unlimited and I'm underwhelmed. It won't be a purchase for me. The first track is above and beyond the best track IMO.
I own their previous four and was hoping the guys would step out the box a bit, but that apparently isn't gonna happen. Until they do, what I own is all I'll own.Comment
