    Re: Adobe Photoshop

That's weird since I have the PNG image as my avatar now, the same one that was clear in the powerpoint image...

EDIT: this was directed towards hotsauce. Blzer, I'm trying what you said right now.

You shouldn't have to merge any layers. The cutout should be in a layer of its own, while the background is the checkered grey/white. Save that file as a PNG and you should be good to go.

He already did that, that's why I'm suggesting something else.

Blzer, tried what you recommended and it didn't do anything...

I'm a noob at photoshop so I might have done something wrong. But when I put the photo in Powerpoint on a colored background it will show up clear with only D. Rose

I'm going to try to mess around with it some more.

          Thanks for you help guys

If you want to send me the PSD somehow I can take a look at it.

Can you send it through email?

EDIT: It'll be hard for you since you wouldn't be able to experiment with using it as your avatar to see if it works. And when I test it in powerpoint it works...

EDIT 2: For now I'm just making the background the same grey color as the default OS background

All you have to do is save the cutout as png and you should be good to go. Take this picture, it's a clean cut out with a transparent background.

I'll try that picture when I get home.

I did the whole PNG thing and it didnt work, I'm just going to start over and try to redo the whole thing from scratch.

Would it make a difference if the original D. Rose picture I use before cropping is JPEG?

Nope, not as long as you're cutting on a transparent background.

Ok thanks. I think I will try to redo my original D. Rose picture later tonight

.Png and .GIF are the two image formats that preserve transparency. The Pen tool is the best tool to use when cutting things due to the accuracy and ability to adjust the curves and locations of the points. Check a tutorial on it if you want accuracy.

Ok, I just tried to do a cutout of the image which is my avatar right now. I still got the white background...

When you are doing the cutout are you supposed to change it to a layer or leave it as a background?

According to a previous poster (which I agree with), it shouldn't matter. Saving it to a PNG file simply flattens all of the visible layers into one. I only suggested merging it with the background one (which is equivalent to the latter option you suggested) in case you needed it to recognize that your art is on what seems to be no background.

IIRC Photoshop won't allow transparent pixels in a background layer, so you have to move it out of the background layer.

                                Yeah, that sounds right.

Right-click the "Background" layer on the layer panel to the right and select "Layer from Background" and hit OK. Alternatively you can just duplicate the Background layer and hide the original. As long as there is no lock icon next to it, you should be good.
