My laptop is stuck at "Start Up Repair" screen

So I woke up this morning and I went on my computer, and to my dismay I was stuck on the start up repair screen. Last night when I was using it, it was fine. But it said something was wrong.

The repair didn't work, I tried system restore, and a memory check and those didn't work. I then tried to boot up in safe mode, and I got stuck at the start up screen.

So I was wondering if any of you OS computer gurus could help me.

I'm running windows 7, and I don't have my stuff backed up.

I'm just hoping that I don't have to restore to factory settings. If I did have to do that it wouldn't be to bad, I would just be losing Microsoft Office and my documents.

    Thanks

Worst case, you can pull your hard drive out of the laptop and copy your documents off on another computer before doing a full restore.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your OS might be dead. Something corrupted Windows 7, whether it was an update or possibly during a system crash.

do you see the windows 7 boot screen? or does the screen turn black and then cycle around toe the Start Up Repair screen?

If you go with this, you'll need the right equipment for it to work. This is what I got from Fry's:

memorabilia collectibles clothing "computer accessories" Fry's "Fry's Electronics" frys.com Arena Football League AFL San Jose Sabercats Football Team "San Jose Sabercats" "Sabercats Football" "The San Jose Sabercats" thesanjosesabercats.com "Charley Chip"

It attaches to a USB and basically runs your HDD as an external HDD, so it can be read off another computer.

I would recommend simply getting a 2.5" drive enclosure instead. They can be had for the same price (or cheaper) as well as providing additional future use.

Not that something like that doesn't have its uses, I've got 3 variations of them. But for the typical user it would just sit on a shelf 99.999% of the time where as an enclosure could potentially get used daily.

Weeks what I recommend doing is to find your copy of windows and boot up into it then I would do this:

I'm doing a factory restore. But there was an option to keep my files. I'm trying this, really hope it works.

This is why you should partition your hard drive. If your OS Drive (C by default) crashes, then you can still access your non-program files.

My computer is ****ed. The factory restore thing worked...sort of.

I'm able to do a few things. But even with an Ethernet cable in the Internet wouldnt load. I can barely do anything. I think I will try to order the recovery disk.

                          You didn't consider snepp's recommendation?
