Google +: Review Thread

There is a Google+ Thread where you all have been submitting requests for invites. How about all of you post a review here so we can know if it is another time waster, or dramatically different. I'm sure we'd all appreciate your reviews! Thanks in advance.

I joined both Google Plus and Facebook within the last two months (been off social networking entirely before this), so I don't have any real allegiance to either.

I honestly like Google+ much better. The only drawback.... no one is using it and it will not supplant Facebook!!! (despite being superior, IMO)

First, I like the idea of incorporating a twitter feature where you can follow people. If I find someone particularly interesting I can follow them and any information they put out to the general public will be received by me. They don't even have to add me as a friend.

Second, I think it is cleaner and simpler than Facebook which I really appreciate.

Third, and most importantly is the circles feature which allows you to customize who can see everything from parts of your profile, pictures, posts, status updates, etc.. You just click and drag people into different circles (friends, family, work, OS, etc.) and when you make a post or create your profile you can decide who sees what!

This is key for me because I have specifically not added family members, former supervisors, or acquaintances to FB because I don't want them to be privy to certain parts of my life.

So I could add a supervisor and only let him see my work history but not me posing with a championship belt, wearing a Rey Mysterio mask at Buffalo Wild Wings, or add my aunt without worrying about her seeing me flirting with a girl, or whatever. It really is an easy to use and convenient feature.

Given all of this, I think G+ is a huge waste of time since no one is on it. I'm hoping this changes though and people actually catch on!

I like it a lot, I find it very intuitive with circles. I also like integration with picasa web albums which is where we share our photos. It is cleaner and easier to navigate than facebook, IMO. The problem, as above, is that most people I know aren't on it....it tends to be the really tech savvy/computer friends I have.

If you're on the fence, you should try it out at the least

That pretty much sums it up for me. I love it, but I can't use it if nobody else is on it at the moment. Same went with Google Wave, which unfortunately crashed and burned.

I like google+ a lot more than I do facebook. That said, it's like Mo said in a post I made on it. Until the chicks get on it google+ will lag behind facebook for users. I love being able to post sports related items and only having my operation sports circle see it. Other people in my life don't need to know that I am a sports gaming geek.

Thanks. My best friend had the same sentiments posted here. No one is there, and that he liked it better.

I'd like to move my account and ultimately delete my/FB account. Actually, it'd be best to never have a social networking account but that is another thread.

Google + recently updated with the collapse the comments feature. This was needed and also the comments can flow in real time like a chat. The new games section has a separate stream so comments, and posts related to games do not show up in your circles. Google + trumps facebook in about every area except for a true private message feature.

I REALLY hope they get the APIs out soon. That could move a lot of devs from FB to G+, which would then bring the people.

I like the concept and idea behind it but right now I have absolutely no reason to put any time or effort into it. Facebook and Twitter are more than filling my social media needs. Google+ may take off in the future and might supplant Twitter some day but I'm not betting on it.

There were plenty of Google homers saying Twitter was already obsolete and G+ would quickly force it out to pasture - they were very wrong.

I like the cleaner look of it, and like others said earlier, you can follow people as well as determine who sees what. Just...needs...more...people. Some of the people I want to invite don't currently have personal Gmail addresses, so I can't invite them.

As far as a dedicated PM feature, instead of posting to a Circle, just post to a +Name or @Name and just that person sees it. It's like posting to their wall....and only you two see it. Works well.

Another small thing I like about + over FB is that on + you can appear invisible and see who's online to chat, but on FB if you go invisible, you can't see who of your friends are online.

Again... really hope Plus catches on,or Zuckerberg steals all their good ideas. Either one would be cool with me.

Looks like Facebook just added a small feature allowing you to control who you don't want to see your new posts. I don't think they have something as controllable as "circles," but with groups and networks you can still make it happen.
