Steve Jobs Resigns As Apple CEO

    http://blogs.wsj.com/deals/2011/08/2...-as-apple-ceo/

"August 24, 2011–To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee."

Wow, sad to see. Many have questioned Apple's future post-Jobs...guess that era begins now.

Big shoes to fill. Not often a CEO really shapes a company the way Jobs did Apple.

Lots of strategy, designs came from him. Real interesting to see how the next CEO is treated by the public when the first mistake is made.

They'll do fine. The replacement is the current COO. I'm betting he was in on everything Jobs was in on.

They'll be hooked. Apple has a stranglehold on everything. That's what good marketing gets ya.

It's not like he's leaving the company though, he's still the chairman.

Timing is everything. Their stock has dropped 5% in after hours trading, so it will probably be possible to get it for $350 a share tomorrow which is a steal.

Yeah, Jobs probably did his best to groom execs and set up the company for years to come. They won't fall like the last time he left, but there's still reason to wonder about the kind of stagnation MS had under Ballmer.

The next few years will be pretty important to them as competition looks to chip away at the smartphone and tablet markets. Android is already a giant and someone will figure out how to sell a non ipad tablet someday.
