I liked the trailer... But I still feel something is wrong here. Patrick is rolling right now.

So is the guy trying to emulate Reeves' Johnny Utah?

        I dunno about this.

Part of me digs the trailer a lot more than I would have guessed, part of me is having trouble getting into it.

Part of it is missing the warm vibrant colors of Los Angeles/Santa Monica. The bluish green tint prevalent in many of today's action movies might make this a bit more of a joyless enterprise.

I watched it without sound, and it didn't look bad... but I really see the original 1991 film as timeless. I don't think it necessarily needs a modern day revitalization. I guess the international extreme sports angle (wing suits, dirt bikes, snowboards, maybe parkour?) will get its share in this film, but sadly that would take away from the thrill of the surfing and bank heists if so.

I like that they kept the skydiving in, at least!

Oh I agree. But we are going to get one no matter what we think.

And I guess without the colors. I don't get the "Dude" feeling. Which was something I loved watching back then. But I don't know. Guess I'll have to see what happens.

I agree wholeheartedly with Blzer, while I wouldn't say the original film was "timeless" it certainly evoked a warmer more devil may care type of attitude with the vibrant colors and such. A lot of today's action movies tend to suck the joy out of the more fantastical elements with the darker photography and trying to portray things more seriously than they should.

I actually liked the trailer and found it to be pretty good but at the same time this feels off in a lot of ways.

I don't get why they had to make it Point Break. They could have told this story, had different names, and done its own thing. This doesn't appear to be point break, it appears to be another movie using point break names and characters.

The bad guys in point break loved surfing, and robbed banks so they didn't have to work, they just went around surfing. Utah was a broken former athlete, not an extreme athlete.

This new brody....how dare they take patrick f in swayzes character and turn him into this. That dude barely has any swagger. How many chicks is that brody picking up with his dance moves? none.

I think you hit the nail on the head here, to make it edgier and more "relevant" to today's audience they had to make these guys extreme athletes and guys with an agenda as it seemed there's a touch of terrorism or at the very least anarchic motivation to them rather than just robbing for the high and as a means to live. In the original film it was all about the high risk and the rewards that come with it.

This movie feels like a twist on your "global economic terror" scheme.

I wonder if there will be spiritual side to the movie.

Hahaha, so true though. Swayze's Brody was great. This guy... well I dunno. Only saw like 5 seconds of him.

This movie would be a lot better if it wasn't being made under the Point Break name. Cool, updated concept. I guess using that title and characters will expand its appeal but it seems like nothing like the original.

Releases tomorrow, only three reviews on RT so far, all rotten.

I would like to hear from a review who hadn't seen the original, though. I'm not saying that would make it any better, but at least the comparison wouldn't be to that film and instead it would be compared to other high octane action films.

Still won't be seeing this any time soon, at least not in theaters. I'm probably in the same camp as most of ya'll: I have seen the original, and for me it won't compare in a fair way. This one looks uninspired, and is just "in name only."
