Sequels would totally make sense considering how this film was done.

Re: Drive
I'm not saying it was that kind of film. I'm saying it turned into that kind of film in the third act and frankly, it was out of place."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Drive
Of all the films I felt were referenced throughout the film, I never thought it tried to or became a mob film. If anything, it felt like they downplayed the mafia angle and only used it was a vehicle to advance the story.

Yeah that was the point I brought up, it was just alluded to in order for the plot to move forward.Comment

Re: Drive
I can't wait to see the fan-videos of this song and scenes from the movie.

Re: Drive
I don't know. But, like I said, putting that aside, there's a lot to like."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. I like how Ryan Gosling described this movie because it definitely fits: 'A violent John Hughes movie.'

I'm interested in knowing why the film went with that 80s style theme (some of the clothes, cars, typefont, score). The book was written in 2005 and the film takes place in what appears to be present time."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Drive
The only part of the 80s aesthestic that didn't really mesh completely with the rest of the film were the pink lettering of the titles. It was very Risky Business/16 Candles to me. The soundtrack and songs used were all awesome. I'm not usually a fan of strictly electronic music, but the mood it set for the scenes was phenomenal. The only it could have been better is if they did another chase set to Van Halen's Little Dreamer.

Re: Drive
by Lisa Hanawalt I like Ryan Gosling. I liked him in The Notebook, Half Nelson, Lars and the Real Girl, and Google Image Search. And driving around LA at night while listening to pop music is my favorite thing on Earth, so seeing Drive was a no-brainer. WARNING: CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS. • The opening
Pretty funny and accurate account of the film.

Cranston & Brooks.
It's done. It's happening. That's the name of my future production company."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Drive
I posted this in the "What movies have you seen lately thread"
Movie had such an 80s feel to it, it really sort of helped it be different from the typical movies we get now like The Transporter. Even the sound track screamed 80s and was pretty good actually.
I've always liked Ryan Gosling, he's been a terrific actor even since his days as "Young Hercules" back in the Fox-kids day. He's really matured and has taken some excellent roles.
On the movie, the director did a very interesting job with some of the scenes, it felt like some scenes borrowed from "80s horror" movies as well with the camera shots and stills. Really can't stay enough good things about this movie. Definitely not a movie for everyone, its not the standard drive, shoot and kill movie. You sort of have to have a liking to the retro-ness it has.
The movie was definitely more style over substance, you shouldn't have to over analyze it. It's meant to be taken as is. Ryan's character was never even given a name which ties into the movie so well. "Kid" was how he was referred to most of the time. I really walked away impressed at the movie, my cousin on the other hand hated it. It really is one of those movies a select few would like.
And i can't stop listening to "A real Hero" by College; the song that plays at the very end of the movie when he's in the car driving away. The song embodies the movie so well...he was just a normal guy trying to be a heroComment

Re: Drive
The thing that keeps coming back to me is how they built Ryan and Carrie's infatuation. On screen it is somewhat awkward because it is really unlike any other silver screen romance. There's no banter, no aggressive word play or conversation going on. I found it to be more comparable to an actual, real-world relationship in that sense because of the lack of "right-word" lines and building up the sexual tension through silence.

Re: Drive
The more I think about the film the more I want to see it again.
The things that bothered me will always bother me, but as I've said, the aesthetic film aspects make it a worthwhile watch.
While I was disappointed with how the story was handled, I don't think I ever felt cheated of a good film experience, and perhaps I need to realize that's the point."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied.
