Think I might blind-buy this when the Blu-Ray comes out. I've been wanting to see it since I seen the trailers on TV but never got around to it.

Don't get me wrong, I thought Drive was great, but I would watch it before buying. It's a real love/hate movie.

Like chili said, as much as I love this movie, it is really quirky and off-the-mark in a lot of ways. It's not a movie I would readily recommend to everybody.

Picked up my copy... Can't wait til Saturday Night...

It's not often enough that we get 5-star video and audio qualities, so it's only fitting that 'Drive,' a 5-star film, winds up with some of very the best demo-worthy technical ratings. In every single aspect of filmmaking – directing, writing, acting, cinematography, lighting, special effects – 'Drive' is pitch-perfect. It never strikes an off note. It functions like a high-performance vehicle, not once misfiring. It takes a familiar and played-out genre of mainstream cinema and gives it revitalizing and refreshingly creativity via the original flare of independent filmmaking. To our great benefit, 'Drive' has been given a demo-worthy Blu-ray release that matches the perfect quality of the film itself. Most of the special features aren't that great, falling a bit short, but one is extensive and highly informative - an interview with the director that's a worthy substitute for a commentary. 'Drive' just might be the very best Blu-ray in my collection, one you should be sure to add to your own.

                      Re: Drive

I feel like I should give this film a second chance. Its opening scene was flawless, and I understood the style/pacing of the rest of the story, but I just don't know if I could appreciate it that much at the time. I think, knowing what's going to happen going into seeing it again, that I can learn to appreciate what they were going for this next time.

There are still some things that I won't be able to let go, but something tells me I will like it much more the next time around. I just don't think I can buy it yet, though.

                        Re: Drive

Wow. Just finished watching this and it was great. I liked it so much I think I'm buying the Blu-Ray tomorrow. Ryan Gosling put on an incredible performance.

It was definitely a strange and quirky movie and doesn't really follow the typical movie formula, which may or may not turn people off, but personally I loved it. There were some strange lingering moments but that was what the movie was going for.

The atmosphere was off the charts. I loved the look and feel of it and that throwback style it had. They really did damn near everything right IMO. The sound of the movie was also something that really stuck out to me. Things like the Driver clenching his fist, the cars, and some of the violent moments had really great sound effects, I thought.

One complaint -- well, I wouldn't even really call it a complaint -- is I would have liked to see the Driver doing more heists and things like that. I realize though that they never tried to force those types of events into the movie and let them occur naturally.

I also definitely wanted to know more about the Driver himself, but again I realize that was part of what the movie was going for. That does leave them with a lot to work with in a future sequel or sequels though, which on one hand I would love to see. On the other hand though I'm somewhat satisfied with them leaving it at just this one movie.

Pretty awesome movie nonetheless. Glad I watched it. I totally see why some of you told me to hold off on a straight-up buy, because I can see how this movie isn't for everyone.

                          Re: Drive

I was debating if I should stay up and watch this last night or go to bed. Who needs sleep?

Anyway, I think I might have enjoyed it even more the second time around. I was somewhat distracted the first time through by how many different genres this movie passes through, but the movie never feels disjointed as it pretty much moves seamlessly from one point to another. I really cannot find one thing that I would voluntarily complain about. Sure, I would have loved to see more "action", because those scenes were done very well, but nothing in this movie felt forced. The story was built up the same way Driver and Irene's relationship was built up. A lot of things just felt natural. Even Driver's pyschotic lashes were reeled in when you see how Gosling reacts to himself.

This was a treat to watch on the surround sound. The soundtrack and music sounded great and the cars sounded sexy.

Since this movie has been released and garnered a lot of buzz and the resulting lash-back, I really don't understand the detractions to Driver's character or Gosling's performance. He is the pure arch-type of classic 70s and 80s action hero; jack of all trades, silent, pure badass. It's like they put Charles Bronson in Sixteen Candles. This movie probably could have been 2+ hours had it included the typical Hollywood dialogue fluff. He may not talk your ear off, but I feel like there's enough on the screen to understand the character and get a great sense of what he is thinking.

I don't like saying a movie is flawless, but that thought kept entering my head while I was watching it last night. Regardless of its measure of perfection, this is probably my favorite movie of the decade.

Pretty much covered my thoughts exactly. Movie is not for everyone but it was the first movie since The Dark Knight I walked out feeling like I just saw an all time great movie.

Just as good, if not better the second time around. The cars did sound a lot better than I remember seeing it in theaters, although maybe I'm just not recalling correctly. Definitely could hear the power behind all the cars.

Also reminded me that I need to go and buy the soundtrack for this film. I still can't think of another movie that blended silence and the soundtrack so well that it perfectly fits all the scenes in the movie.

My favourite film of 2011. Clearly the director is a big fan of 80s neo-noirs like Thief (1981) and To Live and Die in LA (1985).
