Just watched this last night as well. Not at all what I was expecting, and wow, what a pleasant surprise. Incredible movie. I might go pick it up on bluray this weekend.

Having watched Crazy Stupid Love, Ides of March, and now this, I think Ryan Gosling may be my new favorite actor. Dude is a stud.

Yeah, I watched this last night as well and while the first half hour or so was a bit slow, the last hour made it all well worth it. Definately one worth owning.

Not what I was expecting at all. Really cool some of the angles they've shot some scenes from. Gives a unique look at LA. Soundtrack was really good too.

          Recommended watch for sure.

Bought this a few weeks ago and finally got around to watching last night. It was pretty disappointed. I thought it was decent, but no where near great. The story was pretty weak, in my opinion. There was a few pretty good action sequences, but that was about it to me.

Honest question, did you watch it with a decent surround sound system? I would have liked the movie if I hadn't, but the fact that I did made it so much more awesome. I can kind of be a movie snob sometimes, so things like that matter to me I guess.

It seems like he didn't enjoy the characters or story, so the amazing sound effects probably wouldn't change his mind.

i felt the same, although the music was nice
Kenny: Ok Vic, I'm ready for some girl on girl action.
Vic: No Kenny, that's girl versus girl.
                  Kenny: What's the difference?
Vic: Well, in one, one girl wins. In the other....
                  Kenny: Everyone wins?!?!

Yeah the sound was banging. I had it blaring during the hotel scene and my dogs went crazy.

I'll probably watch it again at some point since I bought it. I'll just have to wait for a day that the girlfriend goes on a shopping trip or something because there's no way she would sit through it again.

Watched this last night with my wife & we really liked it. Not at all a movie I would think my wife would like. She said to me this morning that she liked the different & unique ways people were killed. That made me a little uneasy. LOL.

Good movie & I liked the quirkiness. My wife wanted some closure on the romantic plot line.

Okay....separate bedrooms for a while......crumpled up newspaper around your bed. That should give you enough time to flee.

But....I think they left it open for another chapter in this film.

I think those that didn't like it....don't appreciate the subdued cool of this movie. 80's vibe, with a low key "hero". Definitely not your films of today that require 40 million dollar pyrotechnic budgets!...or buying a building in the middle of Vegas to bring it down in the finale!

                            Re: Drive

Just saw this on the weekend and this is the best movie I've seen from 2011. How did the movie, the director, Gosling and Brooks (Jonah Hill does? WTF?) not get nominated for Oscars is beyond me.

Pacing was perfect because if you thought the 1st half was slow, I believe that was intentional to magnify the impact of the 2nd half to make the violence that much more jarring. Tarantino does this all the time where he will slow the pacing to a crawl just so the next violent scene hits you in the face.

The opening chase scene and the elevator scene was brilliant and will only become more appreciated as time passes. They don't make action thrillers like this much anymore, everything seems to be geared toward the ADD crowd these days where no more than 10 minutes must pass without an action scene.

Yeah there was a gruesome scene here and there but I think that was needed to show that Gosling really was a psychopath albeit a one with his heart in the right place.

Gosling is the man of the hour in Hollywood right now. I remember seeing him as a teen in some Canadian show (Breaker High maybe? don't ask me how I could remember that.) about kids on a cruise ship and as Young Hercules and thought he had a screen presence but I didn't think he would become the hottest thing in Hollywood who overshadows everyone he acts with including Clooney and Hopkins.

I totally agree with you, Seymour, on the pacing. The slow pace in the beginning is clearly done on purpose as it allows the tension to build and build until every thing just explodes. It reminded me a lot of a film like No Country For Old Men, where you just have an uneasy feeling that some real bad **** is about to happen.
