    Catching Hell

The next in the great 30 for 30 series airs Tuesday, September 27 at 8 pm ET. I know it talks about Bartman and game 6 of the '03 NLCS and Buckner in the '86 World Series, but the theme of the documentary is scapegoating in sports

I remember hearing Bill Simmons talk about this particular documentary and said he thought it was going to be the best of them all. It was supposed to air during the actual 30 for 30 schedule, but the producer wanted more time with it so they delayed it until now.

I'm really looking forward to this one.

This is pretty damn good so far. Didn't need the flashback to the 86 Red Sox though, that story's been overtold. But the stuff since then has been great. Fans were just brutal to Bartman.

This is making me hate Cubs fans and making want to root against the Cubs now.

There's no need to generalize to all Cubs fans

All sports teams have fans that would have responded the same way Cubs fans did, if not worse.

Yup, and it wouldn't matter if it was the Cubs or my Dolphins, those fans disgust me.

Main reason I hate the Cubs.

I can't help but feel bad for Bartman, though. Even if that seat was empty that game, some other fan would have found their way to touch the ball. Plus, it's the fan's side of the field. If it was a real problem, the umpires would've done something about it there.

Obviously this has been talked about to death, though. Just sayin', Bartman shouldn't have to be in hiding for the rest of his life. The fans need to let go and learn the Cubs just suck.

EDIT: Looking back at old threads, it's funny how OS even reacted to the situation (and how immature the writing style was):

Overall I thought it was pretty good. Not quite what I was expecting, but the footage from inside the stadium was pretty crazy. It was very interesting to hear the story from all of the people involved in the situation as well.

I'd put this one firmly in my top 5 from the 30 for 30 films so far

                        Re: Catching Hell

I enjoyed it, at 1st I thought why in the world is the Buckner/Red Sox stuff in there. I feel that was a little forced, but still a pretty good comparison.

One thing that really got me is the video they showed a few times when he's leaving the stadium how when they kinda stop for a second he looks scared and almost jumps back for a second then shields his face. Noone should ever feel like that at what is a "game" something that is supposed to be fun and a fun atmosphere.

I respect him for sitting there until he finally had to escorted out, through out all the jeering and beer tossing he stayed there to watch his Cubs. Whether like it was mentioned he knew what was going on or not idk, but that's still true fandom which I respect immensely.

I no longer feel for Cubs fan and their championship drought, sorry I could now careless about if you ever win a title after watching how most of that stadium reacted and I don't even care if i'm generalizing a fan base lol, that was wrong what they did to that poor man.

                          It was decent I guess....

Funny to see the guy who tried to fight Bartman is still a douche after all these years.

Reading the old threads, there were some hilarious comments.

Especially the one about the guy saying why don't you tell me dead grandpa and uncle to calm down and the guy responds, how can I tell them if they are dead. I just spat on my iPhone reading that.

At least my view was the same as it is now. A bunch of moron fans.

                              Re: Catching Hell

I liked it. Being a White Sox fan growing up on the North Side and having a family of Cubs fans, I wanted to see different perspectives of what happened that night.

Those fans did act in poor taste, but I can understand their frustration. Did it get over the line? Yes. But at the same time during the heat of the moment, just like in Bartman's case, emotions can control your actions in a heartbeat. The only D-Bags are the ones that still blame Bartman for ruining the Cub's chances of a World Series.

As I said in all my years in Chicago, (some, ok most (-: ) Cubs fans are nothing but Frat Boys young and old, and the guy that stated he's been "kicked out of 2, or 3 baseball games" is prime example. Isn't he like 50 years old now?

I also didn't understand the entire Bill Buckner storyline until the end when they showed Buckner's press conference after he finally came back to Fenway when the Red Sox won the 'ship. Just how emotional he was the fact that he could now rest easy without having to worry about himself or his family's safety was so relieving to watch.

What Bartman has gone through in the past 8 years I'm sure has been worst. He doesn't have the money or fame that Buckner had. He only has himself and his family. Especially since his 2 friends that were at the game with him decided to ditch him.. WTF????
