    Router acting as DNS server?

So between me, a guy working on his B.S. in CIS and my brother who has his masters in CIS, we cannot figure wth our new router/access point is doing.

We go Modem > router router w/ wireless> 16 port switch > computer/xbox/another wireless router on the other side of the house.

For some reason my xbox and PC are getting their IP address from the blue router like they should, but they get their DNS address from the red one which they should not be. So it doesn't let them out to the internet. Is it because it is an actual router? We had an access point set up before, but it was slow. It had it's own IP, the new one we have just taking one from the main router.

The main router is an older linksys, the new one is this one - http://www.staples.com/Linksys-E1200...:StaplesSearch - brand new.

    Any ideas?

You have to separate access points and they are fighting for routing control with the PC/XBOX. If you can, swap out the older router with the new one. If you need a router to handle a bigger load get a Linksys E3000.

Is your Xbox/PC wired or wireless?

Give your 2nd router a static address and turn off DHCP on that second router. Just check what the DHCP range on the first router is (usually it's .2 to .254) and change it the range to something like .100 to .254, then just assign the 2nd router an address that's not in that range.

If they're connected wireless you may be able to bridge the wifi connections, although it may not be likely with the current routers you have.

They are both wired. The xbox, pc, and new router are all connected to the first one through the switch. I was just screaming at my PC asking why it is even trying to grab from the second router.

I just put windows 7 on my PC so that is adding separate problems. Right now I can load anything on OS(it's not cached, tried random links), but google/yahoo ect. won't load.

What are you using the 2nd (red) router for? An additional access point?

Yes. Our main setup in on one end of a long house. So the signal is very weak or gone in our backyard and living room.

If you can, get the router set in a more centralized area and run your wiring from the switch out from there. Or try and get a Wi-Fi repeater.
