The guys will be on the Colbert Report on December 6th. So mark your calendars or something.

Also, for those guys into vinyl, Amazon has the pre-order at around $20 and it includes the vinyl and CD of the album. Pretty good deal, IMO.

Gold on the Ceiling is a great track.

They're streaming 5 songs on their site, and I hear the thing is leaked (surprise, surprise).

I'm trying to hold off from listening to the leak. Planning on buying the album on vinyl when it's released.

Me too (the listening to the leak part). I'll just get it on iTunes like all my music these days. I don't have the desire or cash to amass a vinyl collection.

They are all great in my opinion. Like someone on the site said, they are beginning to sound more "mainstream" now, but that doesn't make them any worse of a band. Besides, you had to wonder how long it was gonna take for such a great band, with such a great sound to BLOW UP! I'm amazed it didn't happen much sooner. I know alot of the so called diehards will be disappointed in the band's increasing fame, because they want that killer underground group that nobody else has heard of. Kind of like a mom not wanting her baby to grow up, but it's inevitable. Especially with a group this talented.

I couldn't care less. I lost that mentality long ago. I can't wait to hear the whole thing. I've only listened to two songs all the way through so far, and they've both been fantastic. I'll still get on a band if I think they go in a terrible direction (See: Leon, Kings of) but that's not the case with this band. Brothers was a masterpiece.

Personally i'd rather not hear half the album before it releases. Granted if they did something like the Kills did and stream the whole album before release front to back thats a different story. That was only about half the album or so.

also, though its off topic what the Kings Of Leon pretty much made them dead to me after Youth and Young Manhood. They got lost somewhere along the way going totally into left field, but it worked for them. They got the recognition, but put on the first three albums and then drop the next three and its two totally different bands. Not surprising there is a divide in the KOL fanbase. Pre-Because of the Times and Post-Because of the times.

Now thats where TBK and the KOL differ. With the Black Keys you still know its the Black Keys sound evolving. if anything they're the same band with better production values, though i'm one that will always prefer the raw analog sounds of bands. Though i get that whenever i see them play the more recent stuff live.

Can't wait for the high tempo sound of this new album.

$20 for vinyl and cd is a pretty good deal considering new vinyl typically runs for 15-25 and usually includes a download code only.

Add me to the group that doesn't think they sound "mainstream" and I don't see it happening. Their albums have been on a notable growth/progression since Rubber Factory and there hasn't been a massive "jump" in style from one album to the other. Both of the guys are creative and for some reason there aren't too many rock bands that want to work with Danger Mouse (I have no idea why, he's one of my favorite producers).

I...ummm...."aquired" the entire album yesterday. I've probably listened to it four or five times through.

                            My thoughts:

I thought Because of the Times was a perfect mix of the two sounds. It was the beginning of the "stadium rock" sound, but I thought they did enough to keep their original sound woven in as well. I wasn't impressed with Come Around Sundown, even though it was less "made for radio".

As for the Black Keys going mainstream...I think alot of people feel that because 1. They don't have the same raw blues sound they had on Thickfreakness or Rubber Factory. 2. You actually hear them on the radio on a rather regular basis now. As I said, I don't see their current as a bad thing at all. It baffles me how anybody would want the same sound out of a group every disc. If you want that, listen to AC/DC, Nickelback, or 95% of the rest of the music out there. Artists who let their record label decide their sound.

The only time I have a problem when a band goes "mainstream" is when they noticeably mine their style to stay relevant with the new-found fan base. Black Keys started molding their current style on the Junior Kimbrough EP and onward.

They still have that blues basis they started with, but instead of fuzz and distortion and Patrick's mud-fi production they've incorporated other instruments, stronger musicianship and songwriting, and a lot more textures. Brothers is just as good as Thickfreakness to me.
