Darn, I was starting to really enjoy the show. I totally agree with the reason though. Horses shouldn't be dying for a tv show. It was a good filler for Game of Thrones.

Show is excellent. A damn shame they canceled it. David Milch, the lead writer of Luck and creator of Deadwood, is a genius.

A really good show, but absolutely the right call.

I'm surprised they've already produced two episodes of the second season. Apparently those two shows will eventually air.

I'm just wondering WTF they were doing to the horses, it can't just be bad luck. I could chalk 2 deaths up to bad luck, but not 3. I'm guessing either bad surface prep (because production couldn't wait between takes), bad warmup procedures, retakes happening too soon and/or just old horses that shouldn't have been run like that.

Wow. That's crazy. It's probably a fluke but you can't go on with the bad PR. From what I've heard is they took every precaution and had even more strict policies than they do in actual horse racing.

So what happened to the 3 horses? I never heard how they died... Were they racing accidents and they were put down or were they sick? Very odd. I'm an animal guy so I hate to hear about that happening. Watching Barbaro break his leg a few years ago disturbed me and then seeing it in the first episode of Luck (that wasn't real, right?).


EDIT: Just saw that two horses broke their legs and the other broke it's neck. Yikes...

I'll be glued to the TV this Sunday.

Unfortunately since 3 horses have died in the making of this show HBO has canceled it.

No, it's exactly what I meant. It was catching a combination of phrases at the time that have historically gone together for a laugh. I didn't know these horses personally. I'm sorry, but I'm not a person who equates animals with people. Was the horse picture supposed to elicit some sympathy?

I certainly do find it irresponsible of those managing this show to allow this to happen. We are stewards of animals. That includes caring for them, handling them, incorporating them into our lives, when they are part of our lives, properly; and, sorry PETA, eating them in reasonable and non-wasteful manners.

Do I really need to justify this?

After what Gary Stevens' character said about luck, I think I get the way this show is supposed to cohere (not that it matters much anymore). I really don't think all these stories are (were) going to come together at some crossroads. The connection is just luck, who has, who doesn't and why. I guess the title should have been a clue to that, but I really never made that connection.

Yes it was Daf, and I was reluctant to say anything, mainly because you posted it.

The picture was the best that I could find. If you had watched the scene in Luck where the horse got injured and had to be destroyed, I think that might have gotten to you.

There isn't any reason to take offense. I'm sorry, but unless I'm emotionally attached to an animal, I'm not really going to react like I would about a person. It's just not in me to put emotional effort into animals not in my world. It's not like I want them to get hurt, it just doesn't affect me. So, now answer this.... did you like the series because you are a Nolte fan (as I was too, though it left me a while ago), a horse racing fan, or both?
