Whoa... and to think Erick and Parrish were out here performing on stage at Chene Park just two months ago. Tough situation for the E-Double. I hope he pulls through this with no further complications.

Re: Erick Sermon of EPMD has heart attack....
Hope E is alright. I was kinda late to the EPMD party. The first song I remember hearing from Erick Sermon was Music (I think that was like 02), but after hearing that, I went back to listen to the group, and they're now one of my favorites.
Also, Def Squad (Sermon, Keith Murray, Redman) was one of those super groups that could've been big if Def Jam knew anything about marketing.Comment

EPMD is straight up my favorite duo ever. They're probably the most influential Hip-Hop group of all time (outside of James Brown, Roger & Zapp and Parliament Funkadelic of course) when one considers how many artists copied their style and used many elements from their tracks that were created over 20 years ago. All of their albums are quality. As for a heads up, EPMD's latest album We Mean Business dropped in 2008. Although I wouldn't call it a great album that equals the classics of the late '80s through early '90s, it's still a good one in its own right.
The Def Squad group did their thing, but I thought the group were better as the full-fledged Hit Squad right before Keith Murray joined. Back when it was EPMD, K-Solo, Redman and Das EFX. And Murray was next in line. Only if Erick and Parrish didn't have their beef with each other and split up from '92-'96, then it would've been the Hit Squad plus Murray. (And not only that... Ultramagnetic MCs pretty much disbanded, Grand Puba split from Brand Nubian, and Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth broke up around the same time. It was an upsetting time for me to say the least.) Then the Hit Squad really could've taken over s--- and had a super group that rivaled the Wu-Tang Clan and the Boot Camp Click. Instead, Parrish left with Das EFX, E and Red formed Def Squad once Keith Murray got on board, and one of the most underrated MCs ever in K-Solo got left out in the cold. The Def Squad could've still blown up as it was, but unfortunately like a lot of other groups at the time, they were overshadowed by the East Coast-West Coast feud that was way overblown by the media. The only Rap groups that were able to overcome this overhyped BS was the Wu-Tang Clan, the Death Row Records acts, and OutKast and their emerging Organized Noise clique.
Anyway, Music was a decent album overall from Erick, but it had a few mediocre joints on it. In my opinion, Double or Nothing is the Green Eyed Bandit's best solo album. There are really no average cuts on it, and it still doesn't sound outdated to this day. Erick Onasis is a damn good compilation with a lot of guest artists littered throughout (which you may or may not like). His very first solo album No Pressure is also good but very raw. Only acquired taste could rock to that album today. Those who nod their heads to muddy, rugged and grainy breakbeats and basslines with sparse samples of classic Funk songs will enjoy listening to that one. It'll be tough for many to adapt to No Pressure after being accustomed to listening to much of the contemporary style of beats and production that sound "cleaner" and are more melodic.
Also check for Insomnia, E-Dub's compilation album that featured a bunch of up-and-coming artists at that time. Redman ("Funkorama") and Keith Murray ("It's That S---") also dropped dope individual tracks and videos on it to help support the album.
