Question is, would I be better off getting a more powerful card or spending the 2 bills on another 5850?

PC Video Cards
I current have a Radeon 5850, I thought yeah now would be a great time to get a second and crossfire them. Then I looked and they are still $200+. Why is that?
Question is, would I be better off getting a more powerful card or spending the 2 bills on another 5850?Chalepa Ta Kala.....Tags: None -

Re: PC Video Cards
But yeah, the 6950 looks like it can be had for $270. Why are the 5850's so expensive still? would that outperform a crossfire?Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: PC Video Cards
I don't know, probably didn't mass produce them. I do remember a few cards in the past weren't mass produced because they got instantly replaced 2 weeks after they debut.
But I definitely would go with the 6950. It will keep you from having to buy another card for a while.Comment

Re: PC Video Cards
Yeah one of the people I know have the card, I saw him playing BF3 with it and it looked pretty damn good.
Also I must say, you can unlock this card and make even twice as powerful. I think one of the mods on here has that card as well and he plays NBA 2K12 with it along with BF3.
Pretty good price for it considering it is powerful by default but also can be unlocked and made even more powerful.Comment

Re: PC Video Cards
Not to go off topic, but how without actually buying my own new machine, how would one go about proving to someone that top of the line PC graphics greatly outweigh xbox 360 graphics?
My friend can't grasp the concept that BF3/Skyrim on Ultra >>>>>>> xbox 360Comment

Re: PC Video Cards
There are websites that post comparison vids out there. I'm not familiar with them, but I can't imagine it would be too hard to dig one up.Comment

If all else fails, take him to Youtube, tons of videos on there of the PC version of games.Comment

Re: PC Video Cards
Its not even close. I am still in awe when I play Total War games on Ultra. For some reason, I can play ETW all the way cranked up, but NTW lags on Ultra with my 5850. But I can spend hours just watching replays of my greatest battles. Its ridiculous compared to anything I've seen on an Xbox.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: PC Video Cards
Take a picture of the PC version and put it next to a picture of the 360 version and email it to him. Heck take some pics of the NBA 2K12 off of OS of the PC version and say look how it looks on the PC compared to how it looks on the consoles.
If all else fails, take him to Youtube, tons of videos on there of the PC version of games.
I'll search again for youtube videos again and see if anything stands out.Comment

Re: PC Video Cards
The Radeon 7000 series is getting released in January. So that may cause prices to drop for the 5000 & 6000 series cards soon.

Re: PC Video Cards
Does anyone suggest a good video card for around 150$? My Radeon 4800 is getting a little long in the tooth but don't want really want to spend more than 150.
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 ghz
8 GB RAM
1920X1080 monitor
I don't do a ton of game, mostly sports games and first person shooters (call of duty, etc...) with occasional Sim City thrown in.
Thanks for your insight!Comment
