Sean Penn is too damn stoic and full of himself any more to pull off being a Stooge (not to say I don't think of him as a stooge already, though). In fact, this is sort of like superhero movies; the lesser the name, the better. Goodman is too old and Carrey is too famous.

But you have to come up with quality and I don't think Sasso can sniff Goodman's ***. Goodman's minor role on Community proved that he's still got it.

This is not an academy award seeking movie. Of course, Sasso can't outact Goodman. This is a silly comedy, plain and simple. That's Sasso's speed, not Goodman's.

The thing about the stooges is the one reel short works perfectly. Get in, get out, nothing is over done. Dragging out a stooge plot in to 80 minutes or so just doesn't seem like it could work all that well no matter who the actors are...including the stooges. Sure the stooge movies had Joe or Curly Joe, but even with Shemp or Curly they probably would have been bad.

Of course, this movie could be doing something entirely different plot wise where it could support 80+ minutes. But it didn't seem like it from the trailer.

Looks pretty good...I was worried it wouldn't turn out so well, but the trailer made me laugh especially at the end LOL....I'm sold.

The trailer surprised me. All the Stooges impressions sound spot on. I might just have to see this.

Good chance this will be a total bomb, but considering that Bad Teacher was probably better then 2/3 of the comedies out there this year, I'll at least wait for a review.

                          Re: The Three Stooges Movie

I must say i'm impressed, all three guys were perfect in their roles and the comedic timing/approach was SPOT ON! I'd like to see how they do in quieter scenes as the Stooges weren't ALWAYS so manic but for the most part this looks very true to the source material.

The Stooges have remained universally popular because their brand of comedy never gets old so I think a certain segment of the population will gravitate towards this and this'll be at the very least a moderate success.

I only wish there was a good update on Laurel and Hardy who to me were comic geniuses. There was a movie in the '90s with Bronson Pinchot and someone else playing their nephews and while Pinchot wasn't too bad the rest of it was pretty dreadful.

The Farrelly brothers are directing this so it can't be that bad.

There are some great YouTube videos of Moe Howard in his latter years on the then popular talk show, Mike Douglas, speaking about the origin of some of their schticks and routines.
