For Western Fans - Rifleman reboot

I mentioned this in the Hell on Wheels thread, but thought maybe it could hold it's on in an individual thread.

From the sounds of it, other studio's are thinking of making western shows as well.
    I wonder why?
Did True Grit do more good than Cowboys & Aliens did bad?

As a Western nut, I hope this is true. I'd love to see more old-west content on TV.

Because everything old is new again. My parents didn't care for the new True Grit, they prefer the original one. But over all though, I think it is a good thing.

I grew up watching western tv shows like Rifleman, Bonaza, and some others. Hell that is the main reason why I loved Red Dead Redemption because it was western.

Give me more Westerns too. I would have preferred a Have Gun Will Travel reboot. Would have been fun to see who they cast as Paladin (Richard Boone).

Don't know other then the fact I had no interest in watching Cowboys And Aliens and was thoroughly entertained by the new True Grit.

With the 1000 crime shows out there (250 are CSI's) you'd think there would be some room for the Western brand.

I always thought that the original Rifleman opening was pretty cool (minus the voice over). Come to think of it.... maybe Dolph Lundgren is Chuck's illegitimate Russian child!

Chuck Connors was just a total bad***. He was the first NBA player to break a backboard when he played for the Celtics, he also had a career in Major League Baseball with the L.A. Dodgers and Chicago Cubs and was also drafted by the Chicago Bears. This dude did it all as well as The Rifleman.

Always my favorite thread on OS. Love me some Western Channel.

The Rifleman might be my favorite western series of all-time. Gotta give props also to Cheyenne as well. Bat Masterson!!!!!

I've always been a Western fan. If I come across a Western I haven't seen i'll invariably watch some of it or the whole damn thing BTW I don't know if it's true in the US but the AMC feed in Canada shows a few eps of Rifleman every Saturday morning here.

As far as remakes go, i'd like to see a grittier take on Gunsmoke.

Not in the US. Now I remember Hallmark channel and some other channel use to show Rifleman and Bonaza and a whole lot of western shows & movies all day long everyday.

Those 2 channels use to be 100 times better then Encore Western channel.

I've seen my fair share of The Rifleman and Gunsmoke, to only be 22..

The only channels my step dad really watches are The Western Channel and The History Channel..

I hope this comes out, cause my dad and I used to watch rifleman all the time.

Good thought, but I'm don't think Matt Dillion, Chester, Festus, and Miss Kitty could be replaced with other actors.

AMC does show the Rifleman here in the USA also from 6:00 till 9:00 a.m. Then it is all day Western Movies. Have always loved the show and watch it every Saturday morning even though I have all them on DVD.

i think it would just be a bad idea. I don't ever remember Chuck Connors actually killing anybody and a lot of times for me, the refreshing part of watching The Rifleman is the moral lessons they try to teach. Although I am all for anything besides CSI Helena or CSI Manitoba.

This should have been given to AMC or F/X. The CBS suits will screw this up with limitations. Can't remember the last major network show I got into that wasn't a comedy.
