    Post Christmas TV Purchase?

I want to get my Mom a flat screen TV. I'm guessing the deals will be better after the holiday. I'm thinking Best Buy, because they can install and remove the old TV and recycle, etc..

I have a 37 inch Vizio that's perfect for me, but I don't think she's going to be able to adjust to the thin audio, after decades of the warm, thicker tones of an analog fatback...

Anybody have suggestions on what brands, makes, models I should pursue?

A 37-42 inch, HDTV with decent audio for around $600.00-$700.00...

    Thoughts?

Thanks, and Happy Holidays to all!

I've never seen a flat panel with good sound. Better throw in a sound bar too. That would be enough to ge her buy I think.

Wait until the Super Bowl...that's when the deals really start popping up.

That's a myth. It's the time of the biggest demand for tvs, retailers aren't going to give the best deals then.

Best time is March or April, when the retailers start to clear out current models for newer models.

          Go and bookmark www.slickdeals.net

They keep track of the best tv deals.

If she has no problem with the sound on your tv, I'd think the tv speakers would be fine. If not, you'll want to throw in a sound bar as well (another $75-100)

            Re: Post Christmas TV Purchase?

            Thanks Gentlemen!

            I went with a 37 Toshiba from Best Buy @ $499.99...

The kid who sold it to me told me that it was pretty much the same TV (overall) as brands that cost $100.00 to $150.00 more...

Well, after I (jovially) wore him out on trying to sell me sets whose picture looked the same but cost more...

            Anyway:

If the cost goes down on this in the next 60 days, they'll credit the difference...

All I have to do is track it online and then show up in ANY location for the additional price break..

The sound does seem to be lacking on all of them, but he showed me that plugging computer speakers into the headphone jack actually sound better, and is a cheaper solution, than a sound bar...

Those bars sounded no better than the TV to me, whereas, the Altec Lansing PC speakers sounded quite good for about $80.00...

I'll see what she thinks of the default sound and then can always store the speaker idea away for a future gift...

Trust me, it get tougher as they age and either have everything or can't be bothered!

Waiting wasn't an option, I'm down visiting for the holiday and this way, she gets gifted on Christmas and the cable guy is set to show up for the HD upgrade on Monday morning...

She'll be living in the "HD Stylee" by the time the "Price is Right" goes on...

Once again, thanks for all your input and Happy Holidays!!!
