    And it just isnt consistent.

So everyone is infected right? Regardless of contact with walkers? We'll assume it is airborne, or the afterlife is full, or whatever; thats insignificant.

So when you die, you turn, regardless of scratches, bites, contracting zombie stds etc. So why the morbid reaction to the bite that (i forget the farm owner's name) got during the combing of the prison? What exactly are they afraid of that Rick has to go ape **** and hack it off as soon as possible?

From the constructs the show has presented thus far, wouldnt hacking the leg off prompt his death thus prompting his turn? Its like one moment the universe of the show want to hold up zombie tradtion of you get infected you turn, then they change it up and say everyone is infected anyway. I just dont get it.

TL DR: If everybody is infected and turns when they die, why would they be so afraid of minor zombie bites or scratch wounds (wounds that we can assume wont kill the injured person).
Because the zombies' bites or scratches cause an infection that kills the subject rapidly. It speeds up the entire process. Hacking off the leg stops the infection from spreading.

Yep, he nailed it. If they don't take off the leg and hope to stop the infection, a fever etc.. will come and rapidly kill Herschel.

Not to mention, usually these "minor bites" are still open flesh and meat. There is a reason why they stitch you up after surgery. You can get an insane infection very quickly.

And these aren't the cleanest, most sterile of living conditions.

I also feel Rick has a grudge against Herschel for almost kicking his family out of the farm.

On top of what they said, you said something similar to "won't chopping off his leg prompt his death".

I'm just going to take a guess, but I'm going to say they're going to burn the wound shut in the next Episode to stop him from bleeding out.

Yeah, Rick was smart enough to tie it off with his belt, but still made a comment about him "bleeding out," so they know - there just wasn't time with the prisoner reveal in this episode.

One can logically assume they'll let the prisoners out at some point after one says "We can help you burn his leg" or some **** like that.

Did it look like they were in a kitchen? I want to rewatch the episode again, but I felt like the area they were in looked like it could be a kitchen, so I just assumed there may be a pan in the back and they could heat it up.

It looked like that to me. Seemed like Rick and them stumbled into the mess hall and the prisoner's were in the kitchen/serving area. That was on first, quick, glimpse though.

I guess i'm the only one that would have put a bullet in Herschels head after he got bit. I mean sure they can save him from turning into a zombie, but then he becomes a liability. What if they have to take off running from a bunch of zombies? Is he suppose to crawl or hop to safety? I doubt anybody will be able to carry him and there's no way i would volunteer for that job.

Save him now - He is a "doctor" can help with the birth and a farmer, can grow the crop etc he mentioned earlier. If you get into a predicament where he is slowing you down, then you leave him. No reason to kill him now. Plus you will be able to see if chopping off the infected limb will save someone's life before the infection spreads.

I'm sure Rick could rig together some kind of contraption for him to walk on because Rick is now a badass.

I'm quite sure had it been say...Dale...in that situation he would've done the same thing.

If it was Dale.. I don't think he would of waited for a zombie to bite him. He would of just hacked his foot away.
