I still maintain that losing Shane and Lori as characters did significant harm to the show.

Re: The Walking Dead (Season 3)
At least with Lori. That got old really, really fast. I felt the dynamic brought by Shane and Rick butting heads was really only strengthened when the group was at full - or reasonably full - strength. When everyone started dying or splitting off, it was time to make that transition.Comment

Re: The Walking Dead (Season 3)
Seriously, this show isn't exactly overflowing with likable characters. Shane, for all his faults, was at least engaging as a character. Rick, by the fault of writers or actor, just isn't strong enough to hold the center of this show. They want us to sympathize with him but so many of his issues stem from not making simple/logical decisions. So instead, you just keep wondering when...
Spoiler...He'll lose his hand.
I think a large part of the appeal of the zombie trend is judging how horrible the various survivors are at doing the logical things to survive. Admit it... you spend large parts of the show shaking your head about the short bus mentality of this group. I know I do.Comment
