    Megaupload shut down

    Megaupload, the popular file-sharing site, was shuttered Thursday and its executives indicted by the Justice Department in what the authorities said was “among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States.”

    Seven individuals connected to the Hong Kong-based site were indicted on a variety of charges, including criminal copyright infringement and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Four of the members of what the authorities called a “racketeering conspiracy” were arrested Thursday in Auckland, New Zealand, the authorities said

              Re: Megaupload shut down

              There were two interesting things pointed out to me on another site about anonymous.

              1.) They go on these "sprees" which result in a site being down for a few hours. In the grand scheme of things, their little games do absolutely nothing. Megaupload will be down forever, universalmusic will be down for 2 hours. They're not really accomplishing anything.

              2.) Anonymous = CIA. They conveniently pop-up at times like these and go on little sprees that conveniently give the government more reason to clamp down on the Internet.

              I'm not entirely sure I believe #2 at all - but they still do pop-up and play these stupid games and give the government more reason to introduce laws regarding the Internet. Instead of ever actually doing anything, all they do is piss people off who have real power and can actually do something that affects everyone by introducing some bill in regards to the Internet.

                Re: Megaupload shut down

                Anonymous is a group of hackers.

                Also:

                In addition to MegaUpload founder Kim Dotcom who was arrested today in New Zealand, another six alleged members of the Mega “conspiracy” were charged in the indictment:

                • Finn Batato, 38, a citizen and resident of Germany, who is the chief marketing officer;
                • Julius Bencko, 35, a citizen and resident of Slovakia, who is the graphic designer;
                • Sven Echternach, 39, a citizen and resident of Germany, who is the head of business development;
                • Mathias Ortmann, 40, a citizen of Germany and resident of both Germany and Hong Kong, who is the chief technical officer, co-founder and director;
                • Andrus Nomm, 32, a citizen of Estonia and resident of both Turkey and Estonia, who is a software programmer and head of the development software division;
                • Bram van der Kolk, aka Bramos, 29, a Dutch citizen and resident of both the Netherlands and New Zealand, who oversees programming and the underlying network structure for the Mega websites.

                Dotcom, Batato, Ortmann and van der Kolk were arrested today in Auckland, New Zealand, by authorities there. Bencko, Echternach and Nomm are still at large.

                        There was LOTS of legal stuff uploaded to MU. Program patches, mods, user created material all that stuff. But the piracy gets most if not all the news stories.

                        In fact I think this REALLY hurts TES nexus I think all the mods were hosted on Mega Upload.

                              Yep, the number one thing I used megaupload for was sharing game mods and game saves, which I'm pretty sure is legal.

                              Guess it's time to find a new host.
