Avermedia C281 Game Capture Card or Hauppage PVR ?

Which one is more reliable ? I already know one needs to be connected to a PC in order to work and the other needs an external HDD connected to it. But which one is more reliable.

Can only speak on the Hauppauge and I really like it. It is a hassle having to be connected to a computer, bother than that I have no issues with it.

No experience with the Avermedia either but looking at the details, it looks like you have to buy a separate HDD for the device. It all depends on what's more convenient for you, USB to your PC or buying a separate HDD.

All that said, the HD-PVR + Sony Vegas (any flavor 10 and higher) is widely proven... from where I sit you'd be spending the same amount of money (or more for the HDD) for something less proven.

Are you talking about Sony Vegas movie studio or Sony Vegas Pro ? It is like a few hundred dollar price difference between the 2 softwares

Movie Studio works perfectly fine... just need version 10 or higher which currently goes for $40 on Amazon.

OK.....so I literally just spent the past 13 hours trying to get this S.O.B to work with Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10. After hours with customer service, which I must say aren't helpful at all and hours watching Youtube videos, I found the problem.

Apparently the Gaming Edition Hauppage PVR comes loaded with the 1.6 driver. That driver is BS and causes it not to work with Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10 or 11.

Had people I need to convert and all that other time consuming BS. Forget that nonsense.......Uninstall the driver......Restart your PC, download the 1.570 driver off the Hauppage website...it is under support. Now you will see 2 drivers up there, the new one which is BS that they say work for windows and the 1.570 driver that they say work with Linux and Macs. Don't pay attention to it, it works with Windows as well.

This is a rar zip file, so MAKE SURE YOU UNZIP IT COMPLETELY. Make the PVR is plugged up and turned on, install the driver, it will take a couple of minutes, this is NORMAL, don't freak out. After it installs, restart your PC again.

Boom, problem solved. Now see what happens with the new 1.67 BS driver is that when you import it to Sony Vegas, it doubles the FPS to 120 FPS. Sony Vegas can't read 120FPS and the program will just freeze up everytime you try to play the file on Vegas.

So ALL you have to do is roll back the driver to 1.570 and your file will read the correct 59.457 FPS. Grant it if you already had files recorded, you have to re-record them.

Anyway.......stay away from that BS 1.67 driver.

              Gotmadskillz,

You are a life saver. I was having the freezing issue which made me not even do my videos the last few seasons of my UVA dynsty.

I will be sure to do this after work!
