Very impressive. Most of the great shows (The Sopranos, LOST, even Season 5 of The Wire) wobble in quality to some degree after a few years, but Mad Men has crushed it this season. The Shield is the only other show I can think of that had such a strong season this late in its run.

That was the best episode since "The Suitcase." WOW.

That's now happened to two people in Don's life, and both times it was after he told them to go away (or in the second instance, resign). I can't imagine the guilt he must feel.

I don't think Don was being that harsh. I know people (in hard situations, with families) who've been fired for a lot, lot less. $8000 is a lot of coin in 1967. Can't let the company's CFO siphon off cash (especially if he's forging other people's signatures to do so).

I wonder how Lane's suicide is going to impact the possibility of Dow...

Wasn't a particularly "enlightened" time re: such things, so the "default" move to just...well...keep moving in the other direction wouldn't be unexpected...

I see him deciding to end it all at office (thanks, Jaguar!) was a mos def "eff" to SCDP...

Just an amazing episode from beginning to end.

I was saddened that Lane would be leaving - c'mon, he kicked Pete's ***! - but I didn't think he'd go out like that. The fallout from all of this will be very interesting to find out.

Thanks for giving us this priceless memory...

It's his nature. He'd just forever be taking *** whuppings because he can't help himself.

Re: Mad Men (madmen) Season 5

Well, I was worried after watching the opening episode. I even considered that the show jumped the shark tank. But, like I've said to others, these writers clearly know what they're doing.

I understand everyone's sentiment about Pete. Then I got to thinking.... he has to establish himself as a partner and look who he is up against: the guy who practically birthed the firm; the inheritor of the money bags; and Mr. Suave. But he's coming in with that snooty country club rearing, so if we despise him, then he's playing he role well.

Lol, I'm not. Poor Pete? He's cheating on his wife, with the wife of his train buddy and tried to call him out for doing dirt. Got his *** beat, smack talked the conductor and paid for that too. He's getting his due.

Oh yeah, that scene with Don walking away from the Megan's set was too cool.
