Where is the love for this movie? Came out Friday and I'm hearing its not thriving at all in the theater. I haven't seen it yet because I work this weekend so planned to see it next weekend. I hear it got alright reviews, so why isn't it selling out? Reminds me a lot of Avatar but on Mars and less green and more brownish red lol

I heard Disney spent $250 million, and it so far garnered $5 million.

Saw it early Friday and found it enjoyable...It's a popcorn movie with some clever moments and a scantily clad Lyn Collins

this movie's budget is it's own worst enemy in terms of negative hype

Another problem: most people don't know who John Carter is just by name. Some may have thought, "why do I want to see a movie about one of Aaron Carter's brothers? I didn't really like Aaron Carter!"

Saw the movie last night and came away entertained; I'd rate it a B. Given the premise it starts relatively slow and is a little confusing the first 30min or so, but the last 15min cleverly brings everything that occurred at the beginning into place. The special effects are really good. The story itself was okay but left a lot unexplained. It's good entertainment; as nccomicfan said it's biggest enemy is it's budget

They should've went with the full title as I thought that would be one of the toughest parts of selling the movie. Even then, few people would know of John Carter of Mars as the Edgar Rice Boroughs stories are only really known widely by those who are into the sci fi stuff and have read the books that were originally published in the first half of the 20th century.

It doesn't help that the advertisements have been very general and doesn't give a good sense of what this is all about. I've heard (and it's seen here in this thread) that this is actually a pretty good movie but the combination of a monster budget and low public awareness is going to doom this flick.

Interesting; I was going to say I got the feeling that there was a larger backstory/universe that existed. Disney didn't advertise it as an adaptation, some of the tribal rituals that were hinted at in the movie were very un-Disney like. They might've benefited more from more openly aligning it with the existing works.

More people would recognize the ERB name and maybe there would have been a better appeal. Personally, I don't like the actor in this role.

I want to see this movie for some reason. The marketing has been pretty underwhelming and painted a pretty broad, boring and trite picture. The few reviews I have read, however, have all been thoroughly entertained drawing comparisons to good camp movies like Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Who knows. The stills from the movie look beautiful to me and the leading actress isn't hard on the eyes either.

Saw it, really enjoyed it.. Acting was a little robotic but I didn't have a problem with the pacing like many if the reviews have mentioned.. Big fan of Taylor Kitsch from Friday Night Lights.

I saw this and it is way better than the performance at the box office indicates. Highly entertaining.
