Re: Game of Thrones Season 2 (aka A Clash of Kings)

So... I just finished watching this season...

HOLY FREAKING **** THAT WAS AWESOME. Dragons killing warlocks, giant green explosions, shadow births, THE ****ING WHITE WALKERS, god... All of it. It was all AMAZING.

Dany Targaryen is a certified badass. Watching her command her dragons to lay waste to that creepy warlock dude was awesome. I am so glad she's getting a ship. I am so ready to watch her invade Westeros.

Sansa grinning ear to ear after getting out of her marriage to Joffrey was awesome.

HOW DID THAT GUY JUST CHANGE HIS FACE?!?! And more than that, Arya, how do you not then follow that guy wherever he goes? Screw your friends and family, that man is MAGIC. When survival is paramount, I always go with the guy who shape shifts.

I wish something had happened to Joffrey after he wussed out on the Battle of Blackwater. Apparently being a wuss allows you to remain king AND acquire a hot wife on top of that. I hope she kills him to try to claim the throne for herself. I really do.

Or that Arya comes to her senses, trains with the man of many faces, and then kills him.

Either way, Joffrey needs to go.

Is Theon dead? Part of me hopes not... and part of me hopes so. ****ing traitor. Yes, the Greyjoys are your family, yes you were technically the Starks prisoner, but they raised you, assdouche. To completely 180 on them that quickly was pretty unreal to me. Should've ran to the Night's Watch when he had the chance (although from the looks of things, he'd just end up murdered by some sort of ghostish beasty).

What happened to Stannis's shadow assassin thing? Was that one time use only?

Seven hells... It's 5 in the morning and I'm, like, super hyped up. This is not a good situation. Damn you, Game of Thrones! Damn you!

Re: Game of Thrones Season 2 (aka A Clash of Kings)

I'm trying to stay far away from this thread as I'm two episodes away from finishing season one but am definitely hooked. I don't have HBO and am thinking about getting into the books.

It sounds like all the first book is based on season 1 so I'm wondering if I can start reading book two after completing the show's first season, and be on top of things or do I need to really start with the first book? I guess how much will I be missing if I skip the first book after watching the first season?

Sorry if this has been answered a thousand times over in this thread, I'm trying to keep from having things spoiled given how late I am to the party.

Book 1 and season 1 run pretty much on the same line. I think you can skip book 1 and be okay. Book 2 and season 2 go on two different paths so you should definitely read book 2.

I would recommend that you still read Game of Thrones in-order to get the full-picture. There were quite a number of storylines that the show merely glossed over and some, skipped entirely that the book sheds light on.

That said, season 1 IS a good adaptation of Game of Thrones in that it allows you to skip book 1 if you so choose.

I've watched the first 2 seasons of the show, love it, crazy finale... Think I'm finally gonna cave and read the books. Should help me (hopefully) finally fill in all the details and help me to remember who's who, who's related to who, and who has claims to what. Then I'll probably watch the series over again leading up to whenever season 3 airs just to help me clear up the moments where I was hazy on the details.

Season 3 will premiere on March 31st, 2013.

Casting announcements made for season. These are not all of the new characters from season 3, but should be most of the new ones. Link contains a few that aren't in the video.

**Obviously, light season 3 spoilers for those that haven't read the books, as they are new characters.**

New season 3 cast members (a few more than are in the video).

Introduction video to some of the new cast.

As almost always with this show, the casting looks great.

Trying to work my way through Martin's 5th book in this series. How the first three books are so fantastic and the last two went to drudgery is a mystery.
