I'm looking to order something pre built (I'm in Japan so I'm limited on options). I really just want to use the PC for some light gaming because I all ready have a PS4 and for Graphic Design.

Is it worth the price tag ? If not, have you ran across any other good deals on an all ready built towers ?

Also, I have a 32" 1080 LED TV right now on my desk and I have no more room. I'm considering selling it and downsizing to something in the 20's. For gaming purposes, wouldn't you think a 32" would be a little too much ?

I also wonder how great the quality would be for the video output.

I know some of these are vague questions and thoughts, but if anyone more informed could break it down for me in terms a PC technology ignorant person could understand that would be great.

Again, I won't need the tower for any crazy gaming.. just some games I can't get for PS4 and were multiplatform for last gen and maybe a few PC exclusives.


Thanks for any advice or input you may have. The only other thing I can think to mention is I need something that won't be crazy hard to upgrade in the future when I get back to the states.

Hey Chase. I would probably not go with that build. You can do a lot better for $750. The processor is good, but the graphics card isn't going to hold up well for any graphic intensive games (Battlefield or anything using a Frostbite engine wouldn't run well on it).

Want something that will last me a few years and handle my first foray into PC gaming since the days of AGP Graphics Cards.

Is the video card worth it? Do I need more or less? FX 8350 or bump up a little more cash for I5 4670K?

I'm confused. And the regular internet just leads me to AMD/Intel fanboy wars.

Basically going to use this PC as a gaming build with the ability to do some photo editing (PS) and some XBMC video action.

No fanboy but generally speaking, Intel does make the best performing CPUs at he moment from a gaming point of view. That said, I have both and while there's no doubt that the 4670k is faster, the 8350 will be able to handle whatever you throw at it. Plus, you'll save a few bucks and a lot of the time, the performance difference isn't too big. You can go with the 6350 even and come out with roughly the same performance as the 8350.

You can use that money to invest in a better GPU. The 970 is what I'd recommend. It's the best bang for your buck right now and it will make a bigger difference than the CPU for most games anyway. It's out of stock a lot but if you can't find it, you can often sign up to be alerted as soon as another shipment comes in.

Do you absolutely have to have the optical drive? If not, that's a little more money you can use for the GPU. If so, you can find good ones for a little less. If it's just for installing the OS, you can use a flash drive for that.

It's a hundred bucks more if you can swing it, but well worth it imo.

Trob thanks for the feedback. My budget is somewhere between 400-900. It really just depends on what kind of gift cards/Christmas cash I get this year.

I know I'll have about $500 but anticipating a bit more if past is any indication. My wife and I decided that we would get each other a small gift but then set aside a cash amount where we could each purchase what we wanted with that money. So $400 of it is already guaranteed. If I can muster/raise the other amount I'll be willing to spend in order to have a machine that will last me a few years.

I don't need an optical drive really. Just threw it in there. And I have a copy of windows already so that's not a big deal. And for the AMD/Intel thing that's still up in the air. I know I'll pay more for Intel but if it will be worth it I could do that also.

Anyone have any good routers that have excellent range? I am going to be moving soon and need a wifi router than can reach all floors of a multi-floor home. I am not looking to spend anymore than $100 but I just want to make sure that the coverage really hits every area of the house. Is this a reasonable price range?

Yes. The plan is to have the small SSD just for the OS.

Storage isn't a big deal for me as its something I can easily expand down the road.

Doug, if you have not ordered your parts yet I would try getting the MSI 970 Gaming OC MSI 970 Gaming OC which is about $10-$15 more than that Zotac or go with the Gigabyte G1 Gigabyte G1 970. I personally have the MSI and I absolutely love the card.

Microcenter this week is having a sale on CPU's where you can get the i5 4690k for $179 or the i7 4790k for $249 http://www.microcenter.com/category/...tel-Processors. Any of those two would last you for a few years, until at least Skylake comes out. I am going to get that i7 tomorrow and a new Z97 mobo, ready to upgrade my i5 2500K which is 3 years old and is still capable, but I'm ready for an upgrade. LOL!

I use the WNDR4300. Got it for like $85 at Walmart. I've learned it doesn't matter how much you spend on a router. They all work about as well and last about as long. Whether I've spent $40 or $140 on a router, I get 1-2 years out of it and have never had a problem with multiple floors. Maybe if you are stashing it in the back corner of a basement and need it on the opposite corner on the 2nd floor, then you want to make sure one has good range.

I learned people on Amazon are also very critical of routers. I looked at reviews on Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Newegg, and professional reviews when I picked mine. Overall, the consensus was it is a solid router, despite 15% 1-star reviews, which is usually a red flag to me on Amazon.

Microcenter is just about a 40 minute drive from me and I've had some friends who've built buy parts from there and do store pickup so I'll probably look that way.

I would swap out that EVGA PSU for their G2 PSU, http://www.microcenter.com/product/4...V_Power_Supply. It is one of the best PSU's on the market as it is made by SuperFlower/Leadex and is a few dollars more. Granted you will not use the 750W, but it is one of the best PSU's for the price and sometimes you can get it for $100-$110. The rest of your build looks pretty good.

I'm in a ITX build for my main system that's hooked up to the TV. I really like it for playing the multiplats on and use my PS4 for console exclusives and sports games. I might get a 1440p monitor next year and make that jump as I hear 1440p looks absolutely stunning.

Do you plan to use your old drives?

I love Microcenter which I wish we had one closer to my house, they are about a 30 min drive which is not too bad.

I have one of those hybrid Seagate drives I would throw in it for the time being along with a small SSD for OS/Frequently used Programs. Figured Drive is something I can always upgrade later on down the line.

I haven't been to microcenter personally but hear good things. I was looking at that PSU because it was modular but not sure if I even need that

If I'm not using a windowed case and don't really care about the looks are modular PSU necessary? or is it all for looks?

Modular is for space, more than looks, at least that's the way I've always looked at it. If you have a small case, or are just pressed for space, you unplug the cables you aren't using, as there is a good chance you are not using every single plug that comes on the PSU.

If your case is large enough to manage cables, it's not as much of a requirement.
