I’m considering getting a gaming laptop. The Asus G14 gets good reviews and has a good price point but the guys over on reddit said it has a 2060 max-q and that’s a bad thing. One guy said shoot for 2070 super. I basically want to play NR2003 and maybe 2k/Madden with mods. I can play NR2003 on my surface pro 7 now but would want to be able to play the other two as well with great graphics.

I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to computers but if it’s not possible given I don’t want to spend a ton for what little gaming I do, then I’m fine with someone saying that. I’m mostly a console guy anyway. I just need some direction.


Oh and one guy said try eulektronics but their stuff says max-p and some max q.

Basically, help.

I would strive for a laptop with a 2080. Avoid laptops with max q, those laptops have their GPU under clocked to reduce the heat and make them more battery friendly. 2080 laptops run around the $3,000 range though usually. If you want to stay below $2,000, then 2070 is your best bet. 2070 super put you around $2,200 - $2,500 range. If you just playing sports games, then a 2070 laptop would be all you need.

Money and relative performance gains.

Large SSD's still arent cheap and if you are only using it to house music and pictures then it isnt going to be noticeably different from a 7200rpm HDD. SSD is still the superior option as they should be less likely to fail vs a mechanical hard drive, but it is just an area where you can save money if you dont want to spend it.

For secondary storage, I would say no.

That being said, I bought such kind of hard drive when I built my computer, and it made a clicking noise from the jump. Never yet replaced it because I don't want to open her back up and such, so I just disabled it for now. A waste of money to not exchange it under warranty, but at least it was cheap.

Found a MSI with: 10th gen Intel core i7-10750H, RTX 2070 Super 32GB ram and 1TB HDD-512GD SSD for 2000.

Is that enough CPU, GPU and memory? Is MSI any good? Thank you for your help the first time as well.

I don't really follow laptops, but MSI as a brand is fine. An i7-10750h and an RTX 2070 are both more than enough to play the games you're looking for.

Laptops are generally more expensive than a desktops, but at the $2k price point you should be expecting a very powerful system regardless if desktop or laptop (and it sounds like this one is).

I do wonder if this is overkill for what you need though. I'm a proponent of overbuying when it comes to PC's to future proof and delay the next purchase, but I don't think either Madden or NBA has a very hardcore system requirement (though I can't speak to whatever requirements the mods may have).

Sounds like the system you're looking at will absolutely play Madden now and probably for several years to come. If money is a concern though you might be able to save money and find something with a slightly older cpu (like an 8th or 9th gen i7) and an older 1070 gpu.

The back fan obviously comes with a case but how much more really is necessary

The closest location to me is about 6 hours away, unfortunately.

That said, from a value perspective, is the upgrade from the 3600 to the 3600X worth the $30 price increase?

Good to see the community building rigs to experience top end gaming.

I just bought an LG Ultra Wide Gsync 3840x1600p gaming monitor....

It is amazing and having that ultra wide display is super immersive.

Now to wait until end of this year to get 3080ti
