    web hosting

Can anyone recommend a hosting site that is dirt cheap? I just want to have some space to mess around with. If I register a domain with one place, how hard is it to transfer the domain over to a more reliable service if I ever need to?

As much as I know about technology this is one thing I am blind on. I am really cheap, godaddy's $5.99 a month is to much for me.

Go Daddy is fairly cheap. I've used it in the past and liked it.

bluehost is very cheap I have heard, but I've never had any interaction with it.

Web hosting and cheap can't be in the same sentence........

If $5.99 a month is too high for you, you will probably have a heart attack if you knew what other places charge per a month.

If you just want some space to mess around with, go to wordpress website or google blogspot or tumblr. Those are free to write what ever you want, add music to and youtube videos on to your page.

But if you want full fledged website, then you going to have spend some money. Websites aren't cheap. So I would mess around with wordpress if I was you just for you can get a feel for it without investing money into it.

They are about the same price. Go Daddy lets you go montly though and it looked like Blue Host was 12/mo minimun.

What does this stuff get you?

          Clicks for your page.

Generally how a website works is if you have company or companies running ads on your page, you as the website owner get paid by how many clicks your page gets on a daily or weekly basis depending on the company.

Personally don't worry about Ad Credits. Worry about generating traffic to your site. Generate enough traffic to your site and big name companies will find you and offer to run ads on your page.

Site traffic is the most important thing to a web hoster.

I used to run my own sports gaming league website with registered domain and all.

We only paid $9.99/mo (which is fairly cheap imo) and it had a massive amount of web space available + that included the domain name.

I work for godaddy.com. Can you afford 30 bucks? Call the number on the site and ask the rep that you heard there's a special price for a domain and hosting for 30 bucks. It comes out to be 30.17 and that is 1 year of hosting and a domain. Can't beat that. It will be the economy plan that is 10 gb. I would go Linux so that you can install programs like Wordpress/Joomla or whatever program you like using. Personally, I like wordpress A LOT. It's a free install after you setup the hosting. You can PM me if you have questions or you can the ask the rep when you call.

Go Daddy seems the cheapest, plus registering the domain is only $1.99 the first year if you combo it with hosting. I figured you would be able to get something for $2-$3 a month. I've used WHOIS before, but this whole concept just seems like it was developed so people would pay to have their information now shown on it.

I'm serious. I'm in the sales department, not sure if they took off the sale so I would call right now actually and ask for it.

You could just give me your extension and give me an even better sale

Sorry man, that's probably the cheapest you'll ever see with godaddy.
