The trick is to use wifi whenever you can. Usually quicker, and you don't get charged for it

I had the iPhone on sprint and hated it, the speeds were not up to par with the other carriers. So just beware. It would take like 10 minutes to download an app.

i have an iphone 4s with sprint and I enjoy it. I decided to stay wiht sprint because of the unlimited data plan. I use a lot of data searching the net, listening to pandora and watching netflix so I didn't want to be tied down by limited usage. The only downside vs. other carriers is the loss of coverage in certain buildings. At my school where I work I get no coverage in the building, but other carriers get some service. As far as slowing down data speeds I haven't heard.
