Soundbar recommendations
Ok, so I'm about ready to purchase a soundbar. I have an older 5.1 system but I'm starting to get annoyed by clutter (funny, since "clutter" described my lifestyle perfectly 6-7 years ago!) and I like the soundbar look. I don't believe that my 5.1 has an HDMI port either so that's another reason to make a move. Anyway, I'm looking to stay around $300 or less and am leaning toward the Sony HTCT150 system right now. I don't mind the wired subwoofer and CNET listed it as one of the best soundbar systems. That said, I haven't actually gone to test it in-store yet so I may completely change my mind once I do that. I also like the bluetooth capability of the LG systems I've seen but the sound quality hasn't gotten outstanding reviews. I don't consider myself an audiophile but would like to make sure that I'm getting a good system for what I spend.
Any reviews on either of those systems? Any others that I should be checking out?PSN: JWGoNDTags: None -
Re: Soundbar recommendations
I have the Sony Soundbar... absolutely amazing. Best one on the market, as you can feed all your devices through the subwoofer, enabling a much greater variety of sound setup support. The only negative is you'll need to keep it next to your tv since everything is wired. Not a problem really unless you have a large entertainment center. -
Re: Soundbar recommendations
I don't know anything about this stuff, so when my Mom needed a soundbar for her new flat screen, I went to a few stores (Target / 2 Walmarts / Best Buy) and talked to the kids who worked there...
Surprisingly 3 out of the 4 clerks all had the same Vizio VSB 200...
The only one who had something different said it was "between the Vizio and the one I got"...
It wasn't the most expensive (on sale for 99.00), it wasn't the one they "had the most of" on the shelf...but it came highly recommended, so I got it...
Sounds great, not a lot of "moving parts" / settings...easy install...
Might not be as high end as you're describing, but it's notable to me that independently of one another and with no prompting, all these guys bought the same bar for themselves...Comment

Re: Soundbar recommendations
The Sony is a solid choice. Might want to consider the LG soundbar + wireless sub combo as well. It's $248 at Sam's Club ($300 on amazon).Comment

Re: Soundbar recommendations
The Sony HTCT150 is a very good choice, and a great choice if you have multiple HD sources. I've had mine for a few years now. Every now and then I do have sound level issues, where the voice audio level doesn't match the music or effect audio level. But not a may be a tuning issue. Also love that it has more HDMI connections than other sound bars on the market; have my 360/PS3/Comcast all connected and still have 1 freeHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

That's the soundbar I have, recommended it a few times on here. Love it, sub is built into the sound bar, sounds absolutely incredible when it's cranked up. Gives a good illusion of 7.1 audio IMO.Comment

I have a gaming office and I will be about 3-4 feet away from my T.V. and the soundbar would sit on the desk infront of the T.V. (42 inch). I will have a Wii U, PS3, and 360 hooked up to it. Do you think this would be a good fit or is it overkill?Last edited by WildFan22; 12-12-2012, 11:57 AM.Comment
