Instagram sold to Facebook for 1 Billion Dollars

Mark Zuckerberg today announced that Facebook has agreed to acquire Instagram for $1 billion.

I wish there was a video when Facebook offered the Instagram owners 1 Billion Dollars in cash and stock for their app. I bet you they thought they were getting punk'd.

Instagram didn't even launch until late 2010. They received new funding recently and I was wondering why would people invest in a product like this, especially when you consider the fact it was given away for free. Well now I have my answer.

I don't understand this deal. I guess for them its easier to just buy the app than to create something similar?

That's the thing I don't get. I'm sure Facebook bought Instagram so they could take over their userbase but it would have been a lot cheaper for facebook to develop their own version of Instagram. I don't think this is a good business deal for facebook.

Facebook is the microsoft of social media. They buy everything instead of inventing it themselves.

I loathe Instagram. A platform for douches to think they're some mega-special photographer.

Just upload regular photos to regular Facebook.

Instagram and Pinterest. Two apps I don't "get". What does Instagram even do? It looks like it just adds a red hue from all the ones I've seen.

are iPhone owners as upset about this as they were about Android getting Instagram last week? The outrage was comical.

From what I've seen, yes. And it's still hilarious.

As an Instagram user, I take offense to that statement.

I take pictures (with my iPhone) of things that I find interesting and share it. I don't think that makes me a photographer but I certainly like taking pictures and having a platform that is specifically for sharing photos. I've found quite a number of talented users who take amazing pictures with just an iPhone. I don't think that makes any of them douches.

The only thing I don't like are people who I follow that constantly post food pictures. And that happens in just about every social network.

As for the deal, I think they overpaid but good on Instagram's founders and employees. All nine of them.

My wife loves using this app and adding a few exposure effects, etc, to her iPhone pics. I like you, but that's a pretty ignorant thing to post. My wife in no way thinks this app makes her a photographer, she just likes being able to edit her photos a little.

I think he meant the people that add one of the affects and add it to a folder called "photography".

I guess my perception is skewed because of my location.

Yeah Los Angeles is an outlier to how much of the rest of the country views and uses instagram....or well, anything.
