Re: The cabin in the woods
It was different.
I'll give it that.
Great?...not so sure on that.
Style points, yeah....but past that there were quite a few plot holes.
I'll give you the biggest one.
SpoilerWhere were the whore, jock and "egghead" in the Japanese attempt? They made such a big deal of it at the end of the film...and when you watched the other attempts on the monitors...it was obvious that the "favorite" to do it....didn't even meet the requirements of "the Ancient Ones".
Boo.

Knight165SpoilerEach country had a different set of rules for their attempts. Its based on the stereotype of each countries horror films. The whore/egghead/virgins in a cabin in the woods is an American horror staple. The whole ghost/school girls thing is a Japanese staple. Other countries had their own. Just so long as one country "completed" its sacrifice, the ancient ones would be appeased.

SpoilerThey are shoehorning in modern film stereotypes into an ancient pagan sacrifice? Whaaa? What did they poll the "Ancient Ones" and ask them their favorite cheesy horror flicks?
Okay though.....
So....the chem dept. can come up with hair dye to slowly drug one girl, they can have a mist come up from the ground...another department can set the moonlight, create an impenetrable sphere around the place, but they didn't test that the drug they put in the potheads weed would be counteracted by the very weed that he was smoking?!!
I'm not trying to be "nitpicky" .....it's just that these were two very specific plot points that THEY put forth and both seem less than well thought out.(I'm not going to use the word plausible for a fantasy horror film)

I think I may have completely missed it...but maybe one of you can help me out here...
SpoilerWhy did the sacrifices have to be killed so maliciously by these fantastical creatures/monsters?
What point does that serve? I just didnt get why the sacrifices couldnt have just been shot or whatever.
Thats the only thing I really didnt get. Really enjoyed it though.
Oh and...
SpoilerI was laughing hysterically when the "athlete" slammed into that invisible wall. Dont know if it was suppose to be funny or not. But that was easily my favorite part of the movie. LolComment

Re: The cabin in the woods
SpoilerEach of the sacrifices are supposed to suffer as well as die. At least in the US anyway. They don't expand how Japan's sacrifices worked.HELLO BROOKYLN.

SpoilerBut why monsters? Are there not more "human" ways to make people suffer, you know, like torture or something? And where did the monsters come from? Were they created in their lab? LolComment

Re: The cabin in the woods
Spoilercan anyone explain when marty was "killed", whos blood that was that filled those outlines of bodies? i get that it was a whole twist that he was still alive...but i thought it was obvious he died since it fulfilled that part of the ritual.Comment

SpoilerIIRC, they had already obtained blood samples from the "victims" and just released them when they were killed.

Re: The cabin in the woods
SpoilerThat was a heck of a "sample" if so.
But IMO....just another poorly thought out plot line.
and...
SpoilerSince I guess the Ancient Ones picked monsters from their favorite movies.....in case you've never seen it that was a reference to the original Evil Dead.

Re: The cabin in the woods
This little bit of conversation that was had:
Spoiler[as they watch the monitors showing the Buckner family zombies in the woods]
Truman: They're like something from a nightmare.
Lin: No, they're something nightmares are from. Everything in our stable is from another world. Courtesy of, you know who.
basically saying the elder gods are the ones that got the monsters for them to use in the ritual sacrifices.HELLO BROOKYLN.

Re: The cabin in the woods
I watched it twice. The second time I watched it online just for the last 10 or 15 minutes. I don't know, but it just made me laugh.
SpoilerThe part where the elevator dings and all those creatures attack the SWAT team just made me laugh. Like, awkward silence, a quiet ding, and then all hell breaks lose. I don't know, just made me laugh
So, in regards to the end of that movie, I agree with Candyman: "All I can say is, WTF?"
I enjoyed it.Rice Owls - Houston Astros/Dynamo/Rockets/Texans - Arsenal - PSGComment
