    Sony Vegas Movie Stuido problem

I bought Sony Vegas Movie Stuido HD Platinum today and I've got an issue that's about to drive me through the wall.

Every single time I got to put a video on the timeline the system locks up. Every single time. It never fails. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it but to no avail. I tried to call Sony technical support but they are closed. I'm hoping that someone on here might know what's going on and be able to help me with this.

I'm trying to upload about a 43 minute video (M2ST) that I captured using a Hauppauge HD PVR. Also, my MP4 videos will not upload into Sony Vegas. It gives me an error message. Please help me with this if anyone has any idea how to get this thing working. My frustration is mounting.

Re: Sony Vegas Movie Stuido problem

Does anyone know if Pinnacle Studio HD is compatible with M2TS and MP4 files?

I'm so incredibly frustrated with Sony Vegas that I'm ready for something else. I'm going to give tech support a call at 9:00 but I'm not very optimistic about the outcome.

For whatever reason this is always the issue I have with PC software. Crashes that few people experience. This is the reason I like console gaming so much, I don't have to deal with stuff like this.

Either way, if I cannot get this issue resolved I'll be looking for another movie editor. Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have the Gaming Edition HDPVR? If so, there's some kind of bug with the drivers. I don't remember what exactly it is which is why I didn't reply; I hoped someone who knows what it is that could help.

But anyway, it sounds exactly like what you're describing... dragging it to the timeline crashes Vegas I believe. If I remember right, you had to uninstall your current drivers and install a different version (though not the latest one on Hauppauge's site). I'd do some research on Google talking about that.

Even if you don't have the Gaming Edition, if you did download the latest drivers, it's going to be something similar. The issue though is that any of your currently captured footage will be lost.

      Good luck.

I just have the regular Hauppauge HD PVR, not the gaming edition. I did just talk to Sony customer/technical support for about 20 minutes and they informed me that there is a known issue with the Hauppauge. I very much so would have liked to have known that before I bought it, thanks Sony/Best Buy.

I suppose I should have done a trial but I figured it would work. Customers fault, of course.

Now I'm in the process of trying to find a movie editing software program that is VERY compatible with the Hauppauge. There has to be one because so many people use this. If anyone knows of any editing/movie studio software that works well with the Hauppauge, please let me know.

        Thanks

Vegas is definitely your best bet. I've never had any issues with it and I've had the HD-PVR is it was first launched. That said, I'd still look at the driver issue... I know there has been discussion on this site about it. Search for Hauppauage or something like that on the site and see what discussion you find... someone on here posted specifics.

All that said, how decent is your computer? If it's not up to snuff, then possibly it could be related to that.

            Thanks for your help.

I can get some of my MP4 files to show up but they're cut off. Why do they appear like this?

I bought my computer not even two years ago. Quad-core processor, terabyte hard drive, I forget what else but while its not top-of-the-line, its definitely no slouch. Very good, capable PC, so that's definitely not the issue.

I did speak with a tech at Hauppauge and he recommended that I download the latest drivers for the PVR. I thought that I was prompted to do that when I installed it but maybe I didn't. The server is currently down to download the new drivers so I'll have to try that later this evening as I'm not at my computer (with Vegas) right now.

Hopefully this is my solution. If not, I don't really know where to go from here.

All I want is for this thing to work but I don't have a good feeling about that happening. It seems I always run into issues like these. I'm not, by any means, computer illiterate but these things are often beyond me. I've read about deleting registries, codec's, etc. and all that stuff I just don't want to mess with. I want to upload my videos, put them in Vegas edit them and put them on Youtube.

The thing that makes me the most angry is the fact that the tech at Sony basically told me that the Hauppauge is known to have issues with Vegas. The guy at Hauppauge told me that the issue has been resolved. Very, very frustrating.

Lastly, as I showed in the screen cap above (sorry for the size), for some reason when I tried it about 45 minutes ago, the MP4 files just worked. I can't explain it. They just did. The only problem is that they are cut off and don't seem very clear (not HD). I even got the M2TS file to work for about two minutes before Vegas crashed, again. But that was the longest that the file worked.

Either way, there's still issues that are there and need to be resolved. I'm crossing my fingers that its a driver issue that I can fix myself.

After many, many hours of frustration I think I finally got it last night. I downloaded the latest patch after uninstalling it and it seems to work. I'm still just waiting for it to lock up on me, but so far so good.

The problem is the latest driver. I had that problem with the Gaming Edition and many had it with the regular edition as well. What worked for me and others was to roll back the driver to the older original driver. Haven't had a problem since then.
