    Macafee Anti Virus Question

Our daughter from college told us today that her free 18 month(runs out in August) Macafee Anti Virus keeps on turning off when she boots up her laptop and knocks her off the internet.

She said it keeps turning off every 15 minutes to a half hour.

It's a bit difficult to describe, since, she is more than an hour from home.

I'll be seeing her this weekend.

I was going to switch her over to Avast at some point.

    Any suggestions, thoughts?

    Thank you.

I would recommend, well, anything over Norton or Macafee. Kaspersky is great, as are a few others out there.

How does she know it McAfee that's booting her from the Internet?

Either way I'd uninstall it and go with Avast.

There's also a command line you can use to reset it. Google: mwg-wizard --full-reset

I would just uninstall it and put Security Essentials or Avast on it. Unless you're getting the Enterprise/Business version of MacAfee, its generally awful to use.

Avast is virus protection. CCleaner will clear out your temporary files and other trash left behind. Malwarebytes cleans out spyware and other stuff like that. Avast is always running. The other I run whenever I think about it.
Chances are her laptop if full of all kinds of crap.

Talked to my brother in law last night, he said it sounds like a root kit virus.

Avast is awesome. Combined with SMART browsing. Don't click on dumb or shady stuff.

Have Vipre now, as my mother-in-law paid for a subscription. Seems to be doing well too.
