    The Incredible Hulk TV Series

    Coming to ABC next season

Hulk TV reboot in development for 2013

Fans of the big green gamma giant have something to be excited about. When ABC announced its upcoming 2012-2013 fall schedule we find out that the proposed ‘The Incredible Hulk’ TV series is in development. It looks like Guillermo del Toro (Blade II and Hellboy) will be attached to this project as producer which will be packaged as a hour long drama.

ABC president Paul Lee has this to say about ‘The Incredible Hulk’ reboot for the small screen.

“Hulk is in development. It wasn’t going to be ready this season but we hope it’s going to be ready for next season.”
“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

    This is kind of awesome.

Strange to think Hulk will be getting its fourth on-screen envisioning in only ten years of time.

I'm wondering how this and any future movies will work. Obviously it will be a different "universe," but there's still going to be confusion with some people.

I just don't know how they can do a Hulk TV series...Hopefully they don't try to copy too much of the formula from the old Bixby TV series.

Bill Bixby did an excellent job of playing David Banner and showing his battle with his anger and its potential. The show, like many action/drama shows then, wasn't on the most serious side but it did well for its time.

This is an opportunity to really nail down some characters with good writing and make something worth watching. What I hope is that they don't go the way of the Bionic Woman, Knight Rider reboots, where the acting and writing was awful.

            .
I agree with you, I just meant the format. I hope they take the time to really nail down the characters and explore the emotional depth The Hulk. Is Marvel going to have a hand in this? If so, i'd try to get Peter David to be the show runner as his iteration of The Hulk is the best ever.

The original was OK, and they were really hampered by technology, but I never really enjoyed the focus on Banner instead of a focus on the Hulk as a superhero. We just saw The Hulk jumping up skyscrapers and such, going back to beating up puny humans would be a disappointment.

I know what you mean by format, and as I reread my post it looks like I''m crowning the show as excellent. The show was extremely predicable. We knew that he would turn into The Hulk twice in the episode. Around the midway point and at the end. And Bixby would always walk off into the distance..lol

I show it to my kids on netflix from time to time. There's an episode where he fights a bear in the water and the green makeup is rubbing off on the bear's fur.

I loved the original series when I was a kid. Obviously it hasn't held up very well over time.
I saw on interview wants with Stan Lee where he discussed the name change in the series versus the comic. it was pretty interesting why they went with the name David as opposed to Bruce. Times have certainly changed.

Over/under on cancellation has to be somewhere around 3-5 episodes. They've tried it with plenty of similar shows recently and they don't work on network TV. Plus add in the most likely high cost to produce episodes with a bunch of CGI, I don't see how it is going to survive.

I would take the over. I think the Avengers hype train gets you at least 13 episodes.
I'm surprised we haven't seen someone else take the Smallville aproach. I think they got 10 years out of "no tights, no flight". You think that would work pretty well with a young Bruce Wayne or maybe even Tony Stark if you took some liberties with the history of the characters.

Smallville sucked and wouldn't have made it a whole season on network TV.

If Marvel is going to do a TV show, IMO they need to tie it into the movie universe they are creating and use it to fill in and set up the movies. There are a lot of things that happen in the comics that would just be impossible to fit into a movie. You could still keep the movies as standalone products, but the TV show would just help you understand everything, especially the small stuff.

When they first pitched Smallville it wasn't called Smallville and it wasn't about Superman it was to be an Early Story of Bruce Wayne but because of the movie franchise WB told them they couldn't do a Batman story, so they went with Superman and it worked really well for them.

So this is gonna be a real life show, or like a cartoon of it?

Disney did a similar thing with Spiderman. They have a new cartoon series of Spiderman(I think it's the first major spiderman tv show since the 90s one).

                            lol

If they had done that concept with Batman it'd be met with stiff opposition from fans. Like it or not, Batman has a more devoted and hardcore following than Superman who since the end of the Silver Age has had a bit of an identity problem and hence is more malleable for different interpretations. It's true that Batman can basically be done in any style (the character is THAT good) but (sadly in some ways) the character is stuck in a grim and gritty, unflappable bastard Batman mode since Frank Miller did his stories. A lighter, no capes Batman would probably be an oddity for a year but it wouldn't have lasted the way Smallville did.
