Armenians are actually a very old people with an official language, alphabet, and religion adopted pretty much before 500 A.D. And actually, without getting too much into religion, Armenia was the first official Christian nation.
An Armenian doesn't necessarily have to be from Armenia. Armenian people are indigenous to the Caucasus (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasus) and country of Armenia, and used to have a TON of land. Most of what is now considered Turkey used to belong to Armenia. For example, you always hear about Mount Ararat, and that mountain should actually be in Armenia. Unfortunately, that land and the Armenian people went under Ottoman Turkish siege starting in 1915 in what's known as the Armenian Genocide, where roughly 1.5 million Armenians were murdered.
Many people who were able to escape left and joined up with those who had already left or went and established their own roots in many other countries, in the Middle East and abroad. Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Greece, France, US and even Turkey themselves to name a few.
Many of the Armenians that are from countries not Armenia possess a completely different language dialect, culture, food, style of food preparation, type of thinking, customs, etc than those who are straight from Armenia. For example, I can barely understand a WORD that Armenians from Armenia or Iran say, nor do I really relate to them that much otherwise.
Unfortunately, most of the bad stuff you hear about Armenians (welfare, fraud, corruption, crime, etc) are perpetrated by those who are Armenia-Armenian. That's just a damn shame. Though obviously there are bad seeds for everyone everywhere.
Anyway, hate to go too long since it's so off-topic (or well, I guess kinda not), but there's your all-too-brief primer on Armenians.

To say the least, lol. And uh, an unfortunate vast majority of them are extremely high-maintenance. More than your average woman. They're treated as princesses their whole life. Though that might just be the ones here in LA.
There are some damnnnnnnnn fine ones though, and lots of them know how to take care of their man and family. The food is the best part, trust me lol.
