    Re: Buying a Laptop

Unfortunately its looking like getting a Macbook might be off the table. They are just too damn expensive. Used 2013 models are going for near $800. To me, I just can't see spending that much on a 3 year old used computer.

So..if I have to get a windows laptop what are some of your suggestions? I know HP and Sony have been brought up, but what is the consensus for the best brand? I also hear Asus is really good.

What is your budget and what do you want it for?

I would say about $500 give a take a hundred.

And just basic stuff like Web surfing, no heavy gaming or anything like that.

You can get a 2016 Asus with Windows 10 and an i5 intel processor on Amazon for around that price.

That looks pretty good. Just wish it was full HD. But definitely worth consideration.

I think this one is HD, but not sure:

It's HD but not 1080p. But its really nice for that price. Put it in my wishlist. Thanks!

No problem. I think if you're looking for a 1080p display might have to go higher in price, but not quite Macbook pro. My sister got one new in 2012, and that thing was EXPENSIVE.

Edit: found a full HD one in your price range:

That one is really nice too. I'm a little gun shy with Dell because my mom had one and the motherboard died just after a year. But could have been an isolated thing.

I have had 2 Dells and they have both been excellent for me.

Good to hear. I may go with that Dell then if its still that price when we get our tax refund. Thanks for looking for me, appreciate it!

No problem. I'm in the market for one myself so I had a lot of these bookmarked.

If you're getting sub 14" stay away from 4k. You're paying more for a resolution that you're gonna downscale to half the res because the text is uncomfortably small.

                              I wasn't talking about 4K. I meant 1080p. I didn't even know they made 4K laptops yet.

Ok, no problem. I'm just pointing it out in case you came across it. Keep your eyes peeled for that ultra HD 4k.
