Windows 8 Upgrade
Just received a status update from Microsoft. They're saying that if you're currently running Vista, XP, or 7 that you can upgrade to Windows 8 for $39.99. I'm not that well schooled on operating systems so is Windows 8 worth the upgrade? I know Microsoft is usually hit or miss with their OS.

Re: Windows 8 Upgrade
The price is certainly right. However, Windows 8 is a huge change from windows 7 and previous windows OSs in general.
I might jump on the upgrade just because of the price, but am hesitant to actually install it because of what I've seen from Win8 thus far. Plus, as you mentioned the OS can be hit or miss. Vista for example was not good out of the box and required SP1 and multiple registry/settings tweaks (goodbye UAC!!) for it to be semi-decent. -

Re: Windows 8 Upgrade
I'll get to mess with Windows 8 at school I'm sure, so no purchase for me. Besides, Windows runs in cycles of good/terrible, and this happens to be a terrible stop.NFL: Green Bay Packers
MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
NBA: Denver Nuggets
NHL: Colorado Avalanche, Pittsburgh Penguins
NCAA: Air Force Falcons, Penn State Nittany LionsComment

Re: Windows 8 Upgrade
Ran the Windows 8 consumer preview for a while and then the release preview and it really soured on me. I didn't mind it at first because it was new, but after installing the release preview, I couldn't browse the web on Chrome for over 5 minutes before it'd freeze and force me to shut down. It's definitely better served for touch devices. It doesn't really make sense on a desktop. I'm back dual booting 7 and kubuntu and I'll keep 7 for a while.[NYK|DAL|VT]

I always get Windows from MSDN, but the $40 price is pretty stellar.Comment
