High quality screen shots.

About eight months ago I finally bought a Hauppauge HD PVR. I also purchased Sony Vegas Movie Studio to edit my gameplay. So far, I love it. While I still need to learn a few things and the Hauppauge seems to be a bit buggy every once in a while (it won't open when I click on it), it has definitely met my expectations for recording gameplay footage.

However, I am curious as to what the best way to capture the highest quality screen shots is. I have been clicking on a button at the top right corner of the screen (forget what it actually says) that allows for me to save a frame. I'm doing this in Sony Vegas Movie Studio.

My question is how do I make sure that it is the highest quality I can get? My understanding is that a lot of video game websites use the Hauppauge HD PVR to grab their screens and they seem to simply look better that the one's I can get.

Are you trying capture screen shot before you render the video ? That might be your problem.

Maybe. I can't remember because I haven't done it in a while. So I should render it first and then grab a screen? Also, what's the best way to render videos? I'll check out some YouTube videos or something because I'm still relatively new to capturing videos on the PS3 and Xbox.

Here's an example of a video I captured and posted. Obviously the highest quality you can view it/record it in is 720p but I think the video looks good.

Even though you can only record up to 720p, you can render it to 1080p if you wanted to. Far as recording quality, like I said before, the higher the bit rate, the better it will look.

The Hauppage maxes out at 13.5, grant it the file will be bigger but it will also be more clear. Then when you render it, you can go as high as 8mbps 1080p, 5.1 surround sound. That is the clearest as the clear. Depending on your PC though that high of a setting might take a long time to render.

Me personally I render at 6mbps, 720p. I'm not that picky and I know damn well your average person browsing Youtube don't have 5.1 surround sound PC speakers at home.
