Re: Avengers vs. Dark Knight Rises

I thought the Avengers was actually pretty overrated. Maybe that's because Nolan has set the bar so incredibly high for what I expect from superhero movies because of his Batman, but I left the Averngers pretty underwhelmed. And I liked the first Iron Man.

    TDKR in a landslide.

I enjoyed The Avengers quite a bit, but I will always be a fan of Batman so the nod goes to TDKR for me.

Re: Avengers vs. Dark Knight Rises

I'm not all that into super hero movies, so I found The Avengers to be overrated. Cool summer flick, but nothing more than that.

Batman has always been the one super hero I've always enjoyed. Plus, the realism of The Dark Knight franchise is a huge selling point.

Even though The Dark Knight Rises wasn't the greatest movie, it still gets my vote and it's not even close.

First, comparing the two films is apples and oranges. Second, completely understand the thought that Avengers was more of a "fun" experience, and agree with that thought. For what Avengers was supposed to be, high action, fan service etc...it absolutely nailed. While I enjoyed the Dark Knight, I felt Nolan got away from the tight plot and feel of the first two movies. I left TDK and BB and went right into the next showing...TDKR not so much.

          I'd definitely say Avengers

Really? I was ready to strap right in and watch three more hours. And I easily would have.

They could have easily extended scenes in the first hour by thirty minutes more (and in fact, the original cut very well may have), and I would not have turned away once.

I actually wouldn't have minded an extra 30-45 minutes to iron out some of the story....not one bit.

TDNR and it's not even close.

Any of the 3 Nolan movies blow away any other comic book movies by a long shot.

Having said that i did like the Avengers a lot and thought it was extremely entertaining!

Re: Avengers vs. Dark Knight Rises

Both movies were a culmination in a sense, with a definitely different mood, and left me with two totally different emotions when the final credits rolled.

I had a big smile on my face, and a "hell yeah" feeling with Avengers. TDKR, I let out a long breath and in way was choking back some emotion (what an experience).

I likened The Avengers to a superhero all-star game, really, something we haven't experienced with the superhero genre. It was riveting and fun. The TDKR was the final piece to a long, well developed masterpiece. But TDKR was as if I had to endure the viewing. I don't think I ever enjoyed myself while watching the movie, I felt the pain and anguish, which goes to show just how terrific Nolan's touch was to this movie.

Though I created the survey, I was thinking of the enjoyment. I would select Avengers because I did enjoy it more; while loving both movies tremendously. Now if I were to ask which was the better movie, I do believe I would choose TDKR simply because it was what it was.

That's not a bad way to put it. By the end of TDKR, I was STRESSED and tired as hell. I technically enjoyed TDKR more, but it was definitely way more of a stressful experience for me.

I agree with Beantown, hard to compare it was 2 different experiences for me.

Avengers was a little more lighthearted and didn't have quite the story of TDKR. Meanwhile TDKR blew my mind.

Maybe it was different for me and my midnight IMAX crowd, but when the title showed up at the end of TDKR, I left out a "Hell yeah!" as well as a lot of the crowd. I thought the end had a lot of energy.
