    The "Did You Know?" Thread

This thread is for any random facts you discovered in life that you think is interesting or not known by many. It could be movie, music, television, sports, technology, entertainment, etc. related.

    I'll start it off:

Did you know that James Avery (Uncle Phil on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) was the voice of Shredder on the TMNT cartoon series?

      Good Thread.

Frank Robinson won the Triple Crown in 1966 and was paid $125,000 for the 1967 season. An adjustment for inflation reveals a relatively anemic 2012 number of $700,000.

Did you know: In the movie "Drive" The name of the main character which is played by Ryan Gosling is
never revealed. He's always referred to as: 'Kid' or 'Driver' even in the end credits he is listed as 'Driver'.

1943 Pennys were made of steel and not copper.

Found this out when I found one a couple days ago. Thought it was a dime until I noticed the image was of a penny.

I knew that. Was that a play on Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name character in his sphagetti western trilogy?

Did you know that Mariska Hargitay is Jayne Mansfield's mother? Did you know that Hargitay was in the 1967 car accident that killed her mom?

                      Here's a couple for you:

                      - In the late '80s Pierce Brosnan was the choice to replace Roger Moore as James Bond but because Brosnan was under contract on the show Remington Steele he had to pass on the offer. Luckily when they restarted the franchise in the '90s he was able to take the part.

                      - Christian Bale did a commercial for Pac-Man cereal as a kid!

                      - Some of you guys may not know this but MNF did NOT start with Frank Gifford doing the PBP but rather Keith Jackson. He was squeezed out after the first year and Gifford replaced him.

                      - As some may know in the 2000s Roger Clemens and Greg Maddux pitched against each other and had 600 wins between them. The last time that happened was 1986 when Don Sutton (Angels) took on Tom Seaver (White Sox) and the two of them had 604 wins between them which was the most between two pitchers since 1926.

                      - Canadians would know who i'm talking about but I learned this a few weeks ago. CBC political commentator and radio host Rex Murphy was a student at Oxford when Bill Clinton attended and they were in the same room watching tape of the '68 election. They weren't close but they did cross paths.

I believe it was exactly that ($20K).

                          Here's some salaries from 1968:

                          Median sports salaries: Basketball-$25K, Football-$22K, Hockey-$21K, Baseball-$17K

Basketball-Wilt Chamberlain-$1 million over 5 years, Elgin Baylor and Jerry West $100K

                          Baseball-Frank Robinson-$125K, Willie Mays-$125K, Carl Yastremski-$100K, Roberto Clemente-$100K, Mickey Mantle-$100K, Hank Aaron-$100K

Football-Johnny Unitas and John Brodie were two of the three pro athletes under a $1 million multi year contract (Wilt was the other), Sonny Jurgenson-$90K, Bart Starr-$75K, Don Meredith, Bill Munson, Frank Ryan-$50K.

Robert Macnaughton, the older brother in the movie ET-The Extra Terrestial, is now a postal worker in Phoenix having quit acting sometime ago...

John Travolta was originally asked to play the lead in Forrest Gump, but passed. As we know, it went to Tom Hanks who won an Academy Award...

I don't think I've seen him in anything except ET.
